Yet I’m not quite sure I could tell you why. Outside of the obvious “On” replacing the “i” in the title, they both seem to do the same thing. Sync contacts from Apple’s Address Book to your mobile phone and vice versa via cables or bluetooth. I’m all for a better sync option, so if anyone can figure out what makes this different, or better, I’d love to hear what you dig up.
Holding the Command key (aka the Apple key) and pressing Tab will cycle through your open applications. It's easier to Cmd-Tab if you are Copy (Cmd-C) and Pasting (Cmd-V) to and from various applications.

This sync program seems to be able to syncronize the new Motorola V600... that's one thing iSync isn't doing right now.

OnSync's primary use is in supporting (older) phones that iSync dos not. That's all there is too it.

iSync does a lot more than just sync your phone. iSync will connect the contacts and calendar data to your phone, .Mac account, other Mac, Palm device, iPod. So not only is it free and built-in to the OS, it does multi-point sync.

OnSync is a simpler program than iSync,
with OnSync you can sync only on the address book's contacts
and not calendars or other kind of informations
OnSync let you synchronize single contacts, or also single numbers,
while iSync always synchronize all the address book (so also contacts that you could not desire to transfer on your mobile phone)
OnSync can synchronize contacts not only to Apple's Address Book, but also to
Entourage, Eudora and (only partially) to Now Contact
OnSync does not support all the mobile models supported by iSync,
but also support some mobile models that iSync does not support
in conclusion those two products are similar for contact synchronization features, OnSync as less synchronization features that iSync and does not want to be an iSync's concurrent, but also a different approach to contact synchronization

I just registered this product yesterday and I have to say it's been a lifesaver. OnSync is breathing life back into phone syncing by enabling me to sync my (almost brand new) Samsung A620 phone with Entourage. The flexibility (interfaces with different programs like Entourage and Address Book) and ease-of-use (some or all numbers transferred) is miles above iSync's capabilities. You don't need bluetooth to make it all come together.

The main advantage, as already mentioned, is that OnSync does other phones than iSync. It isn't as comprehensive, nor as simple to use as iSync, but with my current phone, at least it worked. If iSync worked for me with this phone (Moto t731c) I'd have never registered OnSync, but after searching the web, there's no other solution to get it transferring my address book any other way. My previous phones (Moto v120c, Moto v60i) worked like a charm...

the developer of OnSync stated: "while iSync always synchronize all the address book (so also contacts that you could not desire to transfer on your mobile phone)" Sure but that's easy to fix and actaully better this way: 1) create a group called 'Mobile Phone Numbers", 2) drag all contacts ou waqnt o nhe phone to it (adding them), 3) configure iSync to sync only that group to the phone, 4) Voila. You have onl yteh numbrs you want on the phone. And...ast time I checked iSync is still free.

I think the mail reason anyone would use OnSync is that it supports some phones that iSync still doesn't even with the recent update. I'm wanting a new phone and I really like the Motorola V600 but it only works with iSync via the USB cable, that's despite it having Bluetooth. OnSync will apparently work with V600 via Bluetooth. The iSync issue is the only reason I'm hesitating about the V600 right now, and OnSync is the only reason I'm still considering it.

OnSync does many things iSync can't. Like sync address books with Samsung phones and TONS of other models not supported by iSync.
It's not perfect, but it shows that it CAN be done. $10 for a USB cable, and $10 for the program and I can now let my Mac enter and update addresses on my phone. Someone at Apple should hire this guy to get the real iSync up to speed with the rest of the world.

Key thing is for a large number of users Isync doesn't work.
P900, Nokia 7610 etc etc, it just doesn't cut it.
Onsync however works for all the phones it says it does.

I have a nokia 7610 mobile phone. Recently, i bought an ibook with the mac os X 10.3.4 on it. the problem is i can't sync via bluetooth my phone with my laptop! Is there any solution??If so, please let me know!

No support for calendars YET
People having connectiont trouble with Motorola Bluetooth Mobile should attentively read the program help. There is a special configuration for bluetooth mobiles.

Well, iSync is a major program, it does multiplatform, multipoint, multidata sync, but, as any other program, it is not perfect. It still has some problems with some mobile phones. I, personally felt frustrated when I found out that my new and very "appleish" Motorola V3 Razr was only sychronizable via cable, and not bluetooth (an operation that was quick, and seamless with my previous phone, a Sony Ericsson Z600), so I jump in my Powebook and surf the web to find OnSync a very simple, quite unstable and limited to contacts program, with a hard to understand configuration if you want to work motorola on BT (And no, I'm not retarded, I've been on the computer edge of knowledge since 1980, and have seven years of postgraduate studies, so I think the "screen-chair-keyboard interface" is not an issue here). My advice: If it is the ONLY way you can get you phone synched, buy it and get your phone happy. If you have any means of using iSync over OnSync, do so..... If you need anything beyond sending your contacts to the phone, dont try OnSync, not worth the time......
