The issue is a change in the way that Mac OS X 10.3.5 handles PostScript Type 1 fonts that use custom character mapsevery Adobe 'Expert' font and most 'Expert' fonts from other font foundries. In addition to the mention on MacFixIt, a bug report has been filed with Apple (id #3777349). It appears that only 'Expert' fonts are affectedfor instance, Adobe Caslon Expert is affected but not Adobe Caslon Old Style Figures, Small Caps, Swash, Alternate, Ornaments, etc. Also, certain applications that don't rely on Apple's built-in Font Handling (see below) are not affected. Applications that are currently KNOWN to be affected: Adobe InDesign 2all characters missing Adobe InDesign CS and Adobe Illustrator 10all characters are visible. a-z, 1-0, V-Z are mapped correctly; most other character are remapped to new keyboard combinations (ex., G-O incorrectly display as fractions). all characters print. Quark XPress 6 and Macromedia Freehand 10a-z, 1-0, etc., are invisible; V-Z, G-O are visible, but G-O incorrectly display as fractions. all characters print to PostScript printers and .pdf only (invisible characters displays as boxes to non-PostScript printers). Adobe Illustrator CS and Adobe Photoshop CSa-z, 1-0, V-Z are mapped correctly; most other characters are missing. G-O incorrectly display as fractions. only visible characters print. Microsoft Office:Mac 2004a-z, 1-0, etc. are missing (missing characters are automatically substituted for the default or previously selected font); V-Z and G-O are visible, but G-O incorrectly display as fractions. only visible characters print. Macromedia Fireworks MXa-z, A-F, P-Z, 1-0, etc. are missing; G-O appear as fractions. Macromedia Flash MXa-z, 1-0, etc., are invisible; V-Z, G-O are visible, but G-O incorrectly display as fractions. all characters output to .swf. Shockwave Flash (.swf)all characters invisible except G-O which appear as fractional slashes only (no numbers) Finale 2005similar behavior to Microsoft Office:Mac except substitutes font for the default while preserving selection (e.g., it still reports the font as Adobe Caslon Expert even for the substituted characters) [attributed to Robert Farlee]. ALL Cocoa applications (TextEdit is shown in the image above)similar behavior to Microsoft Office:Mac 2004 except subsitutes Lucida Grande instead. If you regularly use any of the affected applications AND use 'Expert' fonts AND have already updated to Mac OS X 10.3.5, it appears that you have two options: wait it out until Apple releases a fix; or re-install Mac OS X 10.3.x using the Archive and Install option and then apply the Mac OS X 10.3.4 combo updater. Note, some applications may need to be reinstalled after performing an Archive and Install.

August 10 2004 at 12:25 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI had one of these. It only supports the Voice gateway (headset) and dial-up networking bluetooth profiles... it needs to support the Sync profile in order to, well, sync. Other than a firmware upgrade, there's nothing that can be done for these phones, and Moto will never do that because the intended market for the V5nn/6nn phones is not the mobile data user... So far I've only had iSync working well on Sony Ericsson phones. I don't have my powerbook with me so I can't see if iSync now supports the Nokia 6820 but AFAIK it's always suapported the Nokia Symbian/series 60 phones.

And an unfortunate update for you Jason: iSync WON'T support Motorola v600. The dumbasses @ Motorola loaded it up with some retarded OS that just doesn't play well with iSync. I'm sure someone will come by that can explain in more detail. But I think it's using the same OS, just a later version, in a long line of Motorola phones that've never played along. Different from the 700 series. Don't hold your breath.
