Apple + Motorola = WTF?

OK, so Apple and Motorola have teamed up to bring iTunes to some Next-Gen Motorola phones, and with todays release of iSync 1.5 they are yapping on about how this version works with a whole bunch of motorola phones that it didn’t before. The catch? USB only. No bluetooth. Clearly the two companies are working together. Clearly they know that their customers want their products to work together. Mac has been pushing bluetooth. Many of the new Motorola phones on the list have bluetooth. WHY is this USB only? Not technically why, but why isn’t there a single person at Motorola or Apple who can look at this situation and say “damn, we should do whatever we need to to make these phones work via bluetooth for iSync.”

Got a RAZR V3 recently. Heard about it's implemetation of bluetooth 1.2 which has a staggering 100 meter range (300 ft). It works great when transfering photo's, video's and audio/midi to and from my powerbook vis bluetooth file exchange, but as of yet still no iSync support. As it's more difficult to upgrade a phones compatibility than my laptop's, I'm hoping Apple will support whatever sync protocol Motorola does have (so I don't feel short-changed!).

Guy at Cingular/ATT told me Motorola made software to work with iSync, but I can't find it anywhere on Moto's website (they could do with hiring a usability expert btw). anyone else know about this?

just bought a V600 mostly because of the Bluetooth capabilities. What good is this if it doesn't sync! HELLO APPLE... HELLO MOTO... WAKE THE F UP!! I don't want to use a USB cable with a freaking $300 phone!

I did a fair amount of research when I got this phone, though obviously not enough! I emailed Motorola tech support about the bluetooth synching and they basically said that apple should make a driver for it! I can transfer photos, sounds and ring tones via bluetooth but I really want to back up my data, address book, and have my calendar on the phone. I guess I will get a usb cable and try that for back up. This is very disappointing and one that I hold Motorola responsable for. I wonder if a mass email campaign to motorola might help at all. If I had known this problem I would have gone with the Nokia or erickson bluetooth phones. Arrrggghh

I'm looking at getting a V600. From reading these posts it sounds like: Bluetooth does work with the V600 for transferring photos and audio (as per TJ's post) but for iSyncing the address book I need a USB cable. Is that correct? For using the cable (if I don't add BT to my iMac) would I need any other software (from Motorola) to iSync or to transfer photos? Thanks! DanK

It's Verizon's fault they only offer one Bluetooth enabled phone and Motorola's fault that it won't transfer data via BT!

Buy the Sony Ericsson Z600 direct from Sony Ericsson. It is the absolute best phone I have ever used and I have used a lot of phones. Works perfect with iSync. Even greater with .Mac. There are free shareware sites that have Apple OS desktop themes that make the phone look and feel like Apple's Aqua and brushed aluminum look. It has an incredible screen and if you buy it direct you get an unlocked phone which is really what you want so you are not stuck with one carrier. Also...it will work internationaly with pre-paid sim cards! The reception is second to none and it doesn't need a dorky antenae. Any Sony Ericsson is a solid performer.

I have had 2 Sony-Erricson phones a T68i and currently a T610 they are wonderful for syncing and clicker but their reception sucks. The real reason to have a phone in the first place! I was thinking about getting a Moto v600 because it has bluetooth and an external antenna, and I've heard it performs good as a phone. But now I don't think I should, change just yet. Disappointing News.

I just got the v710 today. The phone is very nice but it will not work with iSync and Salling Clicker. This is just ridiculous. I just switched to Verizon from AT&T, where I had a T616 that worked great with all the Bluetooth Apps, and thought that I was getting the super phone today. Turns out I get home try to sync it and it does not work. I worked with it for an hour and still nothing, I started looking around on the net to see maybe if I am doing something wrong. No, turns out the "stupidly brilliant" people at Motorola made a bluetooth phone that does not sync with calenders, does not utilize one of the greatest Apps ever Salling Clicker and to beat all you have to buy a cable to do anything with a "BLUETOOTH" (WIRELESS TECHNOLOGY) phone. This is absolutely flooring...
