Boinx Mouseposé 1.0 released
Boinx Software today unveiled Boinx Mouseposé 1.0, which is a nifty little program that calls attention to the mouse on your computer screen with a push of a button. From the Boinx website:
”Hitting a user definable hot key turns on the Mouseposé effect, dimming the screen and putting the mouse pointer into a spotlight that makes it easy to locate. The desktop behind it remains functional, so that applications can be used while Mouseposé is turned on.”
This free utility does require that you sign up to get a license (which is also free) for the program to work for longer than 2 minutes, a small price to pay for this useful product. I have been in way too many training sessions where I have lost the location of the mouse in the glare coming from the projection screen; Mouseposé makes that a thing of the past.
I do have one small gripe with the program though. I went ahead an installed it on my Powerbook, and I tried to enter the serial number that I was given but I couldn’t copy and paste it in, so I was forced to type the code in; not a deal breaker but a small annoyance that I would rather not have had to deal with.

I get it, this is just like when Fox Sports decided to highlight the hockey puck on their hockey broadcasts. They also added a red laser/flame effect when someone took a shot. Maybe they can do that here too!

As for the registration at the beginning : you do not have anything to type, just copy the whole mail they send you into the clipboard and hit "new license". Anyway... This is a nice little program, but it suffers from one thing : it does not work with Keynote ! And this is a big concern when you have to make presentations.

Yes, Keynote is a problem. Apple chose to turn off the mouse pointer when doing full screen presentations, so there is nothing that Mousepose can use as a focus point. Maybe Keynote 2 offers a way.
Cheers, Oliver.

I am a teacher (we call them primary level in Australia, others call them elementary) and I reckon this little app will be great when wanting to highlight particular areas on the big screen from a data projector. Long live the mac and all its goodness.
