Over a Quarter of a Billion Downloads from the iTunes Music Store
That is a very large number, why don’t I write it out for you:
250,000,000+.
Over two hundred and fifty million tracks have been
downloaded from the
iTunes Music Store. It seems that Apple’s business model of
iPod/iTunes isn’t back firing after all, in fact people are downloading from the iTunes Music Store more and
more.
I feel that I should point out that Apple hasn’t broken out paid tracks vs. free tracks (i.e. those from the Pepsi
promotion or the weekly download), but no matter how you slice it having about a million downloads a day ain’t bad.

Presuming Apple is making between 1 and 10 cents per download, it comes to between 3 and 30 million in profit. Not bad, of course, but not mind boggling either. Of course, after the blow out iPod Christmas leading to 8 million iPods in the market, we can expect ITMS sales to go up even further. So, while Apple is a really strong place today, the real question is, 'Where will the market be in 5 years? 10 years?'

Weeeell, if you slice it like: 999,999 free tracks a day, 1 paid track a day, then a million downloads probably is pretty bad :)
