Invasion of the iPod listeners
Philadelphia is the city of Brotherly Love, and it is also home to many an
iPod listener, and during my various treks through the city I have seen more
than my fair share of the tell tale white headphones.
Khoi Winh, a resident of New York City, has noticed the same phenomenon in
his fair city and unlike me he did something about it. He
printed out a map of his walk from his
home to work and marked the map with a red dot each time he saw an iPod listener. A little over 13 blocks later he saw
32 iPods. Not too shabby.
What other cities are being overrun by iPodders?

what's funny is to see teenagers driving around in fully-crappy cars with white little headphones on. they don't have enough for a car stereo or to replace the dented side fender, but 'hey! i got my iPod!'

Chicago is full of 'em. I would conservatively guess that I see at least ten a day downtown.
Back home in Minneapolis about a month ago I was surprised to rarely see any.

Scott, don't forget the many like myself (also in Philly) who aren't using the tell-tale white headphones ... and your numbers would probably be close to double.

i would like to say Dallas is as well. 10 of the 50 people in my office have one. I have two so you could say there are eleven in my office alone. That's just one floor of the building I work in.

I'm at the University of Guelph, and I see tons of the telltale white headphones every day. I'd say at least 10 a day, and that's from a fairly small amount of time spent wandering around campus. Course, this probably has something to do with the campus being predominantly young, but still. And of course, this doesn't account for users not using the headphones.

Well I'm in the Hague (The Netherlands) and up until the beginning of 2004 i never saw another pair of white headphones - not once that i can remember. I then went to Indonesia for 6 months last year, and when I cam back in August I was shocked... white headphones everywhere!

UCLA is full of iPods.
The white headphones were very popular at the beginning of the year, but now people seem to think it's cool to wear lightweight supra-aural (sit on top of the ear) headphones, like the Sony ones.
My Sennheiser DJ 'phones are a bit heavy (and block out too much sound) to wear around campus, so I'll stay w/ the white 'buds.

Melbourne is FULL of iPods. On the trains, on the streets, everywhere. I went into an audio shop to buy some new earbuds and there were a group of 'trendy' women asking about iPods. Slowly but surely they're working their way through our office too.

In Austin, they're everywhere. I've spotted nine or ten at the office (counting mine). The Town Lake trail seems to be full of iPod mini listeners, and every coffee shop seems to have several of one variety or another.

Sydney is iPodded out. It's just ridiculous how many people on the way to and from work are rockin' them. Was stoked to see someone pull out a first gen 5gb the other day too.

I agree with jjvw, chicago is full of them.
In my last 7 days stay there i noticed that there actually are more people wearing the white earbuds than other ones.
New york comes quite close to that.
This is actually making me a little uneasy.
Think different, uh? ;)
