It’s an iPod mini, not a mini iPod

New York taxi

My blood pressure soared even more than usual in the cab on my way home tonight. Why? Because the guy on the lame FM talk radio station kept ranting about how much he loves his “mini iPod.”

If you love it so much, please refer to it by its proper name.

I know it’s pedantic of me to get so riled up over such a minor infraction but it really annoys me!

I'm also gagged by the number of times I've heard "Mini Mac," which sounds like a new macaroni product for kids. "Now in two flavors! Beefy Mac and Mini Mac!" Even the site that offers the free ones has the name wrong. When Apple and Pepsi paired up last year for the iTMS giveaways, a local radio station was also giving away "The Pepsi Apple iPod," but it was not branded as such. Just a dumb DJ.

Just like MAC vs Mac. No need to yell and I have a Macinstosh Computer, not a Machine Address Code.

Fritz .

That doesn't seem to bother me, however a local radio ad here does. They have an ad where they are giving away an iPod 'with video capabilites'. Now I'd imagine they mean they iPod photo (or perhaps an offbrand 'ipod')....but it still bothers me. Oh well.

Oh yeah, but better that than hearing people call "mini iPod" the shuffle!

ummm... it's iPod minis. Compound nouns usually form the plural by pluralizing the fundamental part of the word, e.g., attorneys general; spelling matches; vice presidents. The fundamental part is the entire name of the product "iPod mini" ref:http://www.dailygrammar.com/glossary.shtml btw, Taco Bell is not the best place on which to base your grammar. "Tacos Supreme" is grammatically incorrect as it is the name of a product. Supreme is not a descriptor in this case. It is a part of the fundamental noun in that it is part of the product title.

I'll bet he spells it with a capital "I" and a hyphen, too. The bastard.

Ah, but is it "iPod minis" or "iPods mini"?? :-) "Passersby" and "Quotes of the Day" and "Tacos Supreme" make me think it's the latter... Though NO ONE says it that way.
