iPod Camera Connector Available for Purchase

iPod Camera Connector

The iPod Camera Connector (see here to the right) is available for purchase from the Apple Store Online, reports Macminute. It will set you back $29, but I believe that it is a $29 well spent, assuming you have an iPod photo (the connector doesn’t work with the other iPods).

No real details on how it works other than this, ‘Simply plug the iPod Camera Connector into the iPod dock connector, plug your camera’s USB cable and watch your images make their way to the iPod.’

However,  my iPod is much easier to carry on than my dear Powerbook, Ambrose, when I am traveling, so this thing will be a life saver. And I bet it is easier to get it through airport security.

The Camera Connector WILL work for 4G ipod with a bit of tweaking. An Ipod 'hack' will be released in a week or so that will allow you transfer pictures to the 4G Ipod. But first, a few bugs have to be fixed.

Well, I can understand Apple wanting to move people over to the iPod Photo. I reckon it'd only need a software update to get it playing videos. iTVS, baby. 1.5 was indeed a nice surprise. Shuffle songs! Right there at the top! I don't know why this excites me, but it made me feel like part of the new mainstream iPod family, as opposed to just being stuck as the guy who bought the 2G a month before the 3G came out. Doh.

Umph... just iPod photo? screw that. that's a very STUPID move. every time apple updates the iPod line up or does something for the iPod i feel like i'm being scammed. in the beginning, when the white earphones were a rare sight, everything was nice and funny... then they stopped developing firmware updates for older versione (the 1.5 for 2G was a VERY nice surprise tho), then they started announcing "lower prices" and what you got was lot less hardware for a little less money. then they push the useless iPod photo and they take away the 40gb "normal" one. then the iPod shuffle ad campaign (come on, someone really believes that "ramdom is beautyfull"!?!?! the shuffle is a nice gadget, with one of the best price/value ratios, i would have bought one if only i would have been able to find on in NY, but why apple has to make me feel like an idiot by trying to convince me of all the cr*p they put out?). they finally create a *great* accessory with a very nice price but they force you to buy another iPod if you need to use it. Yeah, I'm with Rob- we won't know till someone begs, borrows or steals one (no condoning). So first mac-fan to get a post about G3 (non-Photo) & use of this device gets a ... i dunno Gmail account & a shiny penny!

Finally! I've been waiting for a connector that doesn't look like another iPod... (belkin's monsters) and it's cheaper, hopes it works well... thanks for the head's up.

Has it been stated specifically by Apple that this will not work at all with other 4G iPods? I can obviously understand not being able to view them, but what is so different about the 4G iPod models that would keep me from transferring my images to it and then pulling them off later? I'm with Scott, I would much rather take this on a flight then haul around my Powerbook.

I wonder how fast it will be? I had heard that the Belkin one is very slow. Would be better to spend $30 and use my 60GB instead of buying more and more CF cards.
