Is this a tablet PC running Mac OS X?

tablet_osxI've been following this thread I found at TabletPCBuzz.com. It appears to be describing a tablet PC running some version of Mac OS X or other. As of this writing, pictures have been posted of the machine up and running. Of course, this could be achieved very easily with good old Photoshop. Looks like either Tiger or Panther, based on the brushed metal Finder windows. The lack of a Spotlight icon would suggest Panther.

Update: After closer inspection, it has become apparant that the poster's name, Xaoh Retsim, is "Mister Hoax" spelled backwards.  Nice try.

I have a tablet PC and I run PearPC on it. Here is an image. The biggest problem I have encountered is no pen-functionality. It works fine with a mouse. OS X Tablet PC

could just be PearPC... there have been loads of these fakes... some images and some videos, but they've all been debunked, afaik. does anyone even know if the development x86 macs have shipped? cos we wont see OSX on Intel for real until that leaks, and for that to leak it needs to ship!

C'mon. This would be so simple to do by taking some screen captures from a Mac, sending them to a windows laptop, then putting the images up as a screen saver on the laptop. Surprised someone hasn't tried it before.

Look at the menu bar in the three pictures : there's the "Pluged In" icon. But if you look at the computer, there's no cord running from it, so it's running on battery (for those without a portable mac, the icon changes).

Another thing is the two different desktop backgrounds. Add in the two different docks: the thread linked includes three shots of the supposed tablet; Safari's not on the first two, iTunes changes color for the third(to green from purple, like Silence said), iCal is inserted & Sherlock is removed. Both docks/desktops/windows, etc look like like a brand spanking new install of their OS(Jag, Jag, & Panther), while the unit is positioned precisely the same, the lighting is precisely the same(once angle is accounted for)(indicating no upgrades took place: not enough time), there's nothing to indicate that it even changed. But I'm helped by the fact that it's already debunked.

well, if there was absolutely NO way to display full-screen a grabbed display image for WHATEVER system (including, say, Irix), i wouldn't buy that just because a) internet explorer isn't shipped with tiger anymore; b) i haven't seen purple itunes icon in years (since, like, 3.0)

This is always my rule of thumb. If the picture is blurry or angled bad, then I don't buy it. Everytime a product leaks out before Macworld, or anytime, the pictures are always barely showing the product, or blurry. Everyone knows that if one of us really came across a unreleased product, we'd be very careful to take CLEAR pictures that are very thorough. (sp?) I follow this rule, and have never been wrong.

Doesn't hardly seem worth posting a story on this, does it? Take one look at that screen. You'll notice NO spotlight icon. Since the only version of Mac OS X that could possibly be in the wild is Tiger, that should make you think... :) Piko

It could also be Windows running a desktop shell replacement. I used to before I switched to Mac. It just makes the OS look like OS X.
