TUAW reader mailbag: 10.4.2 BitTorrent speed boost
Well, we can hope.
How fast third party programs can perform uploads and downloads doesn't really tell us much about what Apple is planning, though. 10.2.4 included a number of networking fixes, and several of them could affect BitTorrent performance depending on your connection. In particular, the HTTP and HTTPS enhancements may have benefited the BitTorrent Tracker. These upgrades benefit all applications using these protocols, however, not just BitTorrent. In fact, they were patched to improve iDisk performance.
Has anyone else noticed a significant BitTorrent boost with 10.4.2?

The bittorrent speed boost is there because Apple optimized the network code of the OS to make it "even better". Now we're on the same page with Windows on that one. I was excited to see TUAW post on reports that Intel Macs are FAST. The two years wait for intel Mac just become unbearable. In Gilmore gang episode of Gnomdex, the gang were talking about podcasts being one of the few real legitimate use of BT, so there really should be a P2P solution of potcast in itunes. What's the hold up, Steve?

July 14 2005 at 2:49 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplySince upgrading to 10.4.2 my BitTorrent client (BitTorrent for OS X) has set a new all time speed record of 175kb/s, which I thought was pretty spritely, and I have also noticed it being much faster than what it was before.. can't complain ;) But, isn't everything working faster? My app's open faster, and there is less of the spinny wheel.
