Russound multiroom audio system now iPod friendly

ipod friendlyMulti-room iPod listening systems are becoming almost as common as iPod carrying cases. If you're in the market for one, you can add Russound's Distributed Audio system to the list of options that already inclde the Roku SoundBridge and the Sonos Digital Music System.

Russound isn't a new company and they haven't added any new functionality to their existing systems. What they've done is realize the value of the word iPod in a press release and on the box, so they've made tech tips and application guides available for download to assist dealers, integrators and installers in designing an "iPod-friendly" distributed audio system. Smart marketing move and one we'll be seeing a lot of, no doubt. As long as they don't start putting the letter "i" in front of every model name...

Looked at the site... are these solutions wireless? Let me explain what I want, and maybe someone here knows a solution: A bunch of my friends own boats, here in Chicago (Lake Michigan). There are tons of outings, where everyone goes somewhere and anchor the boats near each other and party. What ends up happening is that someone has to blast their stereo so that everyone can hear, which makes that blasting boat a horrible place to be. What we want is a wireless audio system, that goes over radio signals. Running off an iPod would be awesome. That way one person can use the iPod to control the song selection, and each boat can play it on their speakers, without anyone having to blow anyones eardrums or speakers. Now, the FM radio transmitter that connects to the iPod would be ideal, but I think it only has a range of 30 or 50 feet. That's not quite enough. We've thought about putting a signal booster on it, but this is starting to get complicated now. Does anyone know of a system that would work out-of-the-box? And remember, it's on a boat and so it has to be able to be bounced around a lot and sustain high humidity levels. Thanks for any help, Sean
