Saft 8.1.0

SaftWhen it comes to Safari-enhancing plugins / applications, I like Saft. I'm always on the look out for improvements, and a few came today in the form of Saft version 8.1.0.

For all of you who never used Saft, because you didn't want to give up the ad-blocking features you enjoyed with PithHelmet, you'll be glad to know that you can now use Saft for "Ad/banner blocking with simple URL pattern matching." Just don't block our ads. I need to buy some new socks...

There's also a Finnish localization and more support for surfing in porn mode. You can download it here. There's a demo available, it's a free upgrade if you're already running Saft, and it only runs $12USD if you decide to buy it. If you still need convincing that it's worth the money, make sure you read over all its features.

Saft does add very useful functionality to Safari, but boy, does it add cruft. Menu cruft, preferences cruft... I know adding features to a browser will inevitably do that, but I would have thought it could be designed so as to only show you Saft stuff when you've specifically asked for it in the preference pane.

Holy crap..... I just gave Saft the good ol' college try and I think I ponied up the money in less than half an hour (time spent reading through all of the features.) This program is amazing, something that I believe will become indespensible to me in the very near future. Quicksilver is the only other program in recent memory that has floored me like this. Thanks for leading me to this great little app!

I said it before and I'll say it again. I was dubious of Saft at first and didn't try it out for a long time. Then after seeing their update posted the morning after 10.4.2, I thought, 'if they're *that* on the ball with updates, what the heck..." It is singly the best application enhancer plug-in I know of (Google Map Address Book Plugin in 2nd). I've emailed the developer a few times, regarding functionality questions, etc., and Hao Li has always been quick to respond.
