TiVo Desktop v1.9.1 DOES work under Mac OS X 10.4.2
Xlr8yourmac has confirmation from several readers that Apple's Mac OS X 10.4.2 update restored the ability to use the Tivo Desktop software, which had previously stopped working under Tiger. TiVo Desktop v1.9.1 is still listed as unsupported on the TiVo download page, but it seems you shouldn't let that stop you from using it. One reader says "whatever was causing the problem has been fixed in the 10.4.2 update. The software works just fine now (iPhoto sharing and MP3 sharing - still no .m4a or .m4p, which I worked around via AirPort Express and a Keyspan remote)."
Guess that homebrew solution wasn't needed after all!

Excellent news! I had used that hack to make it work, but now I'm setting up a new Tiger server so I can omit it.

It's working for some people, but not all. I've had problems with the TiVo Desktop pane crashing System Preferences repeatedly. Then when I finally got it running continuously, the songs (mp3s, even) would just skip from one to another on the TiVo without playing anything.

You can install Tivo for Mac but you need Pacifist to do it.

I too get an error message on installation in 10.4.2, but the Tivo preference pane is available in my control panel, and it streams music and photos perfectly to my series 2 Tivo, which found the network instantly.
