Alternate Mighty Mouse image buried in the driver?
Caius writes to tell us of how he found an alternate Mighty Mouse image in his System folder. While browsing its contents in iPhoto, he noticed two images that resembled the Mighty Mouse: One named “type1.gif,” and another called “mouse5.gif." Noting that "Mouse5.gif" was the image used in the mouse's preference pane, Caius realized that "type1.gif" was slightly different. Specifically, it depicted a mouse with a clear shell (similar to the Apple Pro Mouse) and a "rubberized" central button. Could it represent an alternate design? If you have the Mighty Mouse driver installed, you can view the wayward image by typing the following into a terminal window (all one line, of course):open /System//Library/PreferencePanes/Keyboard.prefPane/Contents/
Resources/type1.gif
Thanks, Caius!

I guess it was just a collague - mayebe the programmers dont even had a real finished model of the mouse - and nothing else. Theyd mayebe just forget the file while publishing the drivers. Or theyve had problems with the clear shell and deleted it from the mouses design. Mayebe we can also see it as an easteregg ... Stefan :-)

It could even be the mouse with odd shading to appear as though it's in a clear shell. And if it really is in a clear shell, obviously they didn't end up using it so it would probably be a simple mistake. And I think it's pretty obvious that they will eventually release a BT version, so it also doesn't matter if the picture has a cord or not. It's meant to be shown on the preferences, so of course they're not going to show a cord. Fishes, narco.
