Mac users in Taiwan not happy

helpJason over at Engadget Chinese alerted us to this site earlier today. It seems that Apple Taiwan's repair turnaround times are very poor, and people are having to go without their machines for what they feel is an unacceptably long time. Also, the blog asks why there is no online support database in Chinese.

Good luck to our Mac-using friends in Taiwan! Those seem like valid arguements to me. Remember: the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Since when do Taiwanese people need help with computers! :-) I lived in Taiwan for 4 years and always had to buy my hardware in Hong Kong, or hand carry it back from the USA. There was almost no Apple support in Taiwan from 1995-2002...it was only when the iPod got rolling that people in Taiwan and China started to notice Apple. Anyway....After 8 years in Taiwan/Hong Kong/China and being directly responsible for the purchase of over 1000 apple computers, I would have to agree that Apple Asia is probably the most poorly run business I have ever seen.

Supporting Chinese just because it's the most widely spoken language in the world is not a foregone conclusion. You've gotta have a wide user base to justify service. I am not sure how many Chinese do use Macs but I kind of doubt if they are as ubiquitous as Windoze users.

Sure, there is no support database in a lot of languages, but we're talking about the most widely-spoken language in the world; I don't think it's unreasonable to want it to have some kind of priority.

I'd like to chuck in a complaint as a Mac user in Turkey. The local representative company (Bilkom, www.bilkom.com.tr, store at http://estore.apple.com.tr) used to overcharge terrifically for its items up to about a year or six months ago. Half the products are always out of stock. They're still selling the previous revision of iBooks, Mac Minis, and Powerbooks - I'm reluctant to buy a Mac Mini knowing I'll have to spend extra money to get Tiger and a memory upgrade, so I'm waiting to go abroad again. They're also quite quirky. You might notice how their online store uses different software (or a different revision) than all the other Apple stores. Also, they don't offer (or appear to support, I wasn't able to find any information about it) Applecare for their products - instead, they offer a 3 year extended warranty with their own name for it, and they make no mention of international support. We're always behind, or out of stock on items. I'd really like to get an iSight and a Mighty Mouse, but that's not going to happen any time soon while the former is perpetually out of stock and the latter isn't even mentioned.

There is no support database in a lot of languages, even decently widespread ones like Spanish, French or German (not to mention my first language, Italian).
