Zero three times; if virtual rep answers, say "operator"

appleThat's the secret to getting to a human being when calling 1-800-275-2273 to talk to Apple.

I found this very useful list of tricks to find a human (bypassing various automated answering systems in order to reach someone with a pulse on the other end) over at Mr. Barrett's blog.

Sometime not that long ago, I read some report that said that if you start saying obscenities on the phone, the voice recognition software they use while you're in the queue moves your call up on the priority scale. I don't know if it is true or an urban legend, but it sure is fun!

Best thing to do is not do anything, pretend you have a old school rotary type phone and you will get transfered right away to a real person. :)

Nah, obscenities don't help, I've used them a few times when calling Sprint. I usually just hit the same number on the key-pad over and over again and it usually transfers me to an operator. Fishes, narco.

Probably an urban legend. I've worked on the tech support team for a major corporation and the queue was the queue. Word of advice: Sometimes it's best to go through the menu. I *also* worked for a cable company, and their queue system was terrible. The only thing worse than a customer frustrated after 20 minutes on hold is telling them that when they pressed "0" it transferred them to the Tech Support division, and only the sales division could help them resolve their issue.
