.Mac services down Monday evening

dotmac outage 9/19/05Looks like all .Mac services are going to be down for four hours this evening, from 7 pm till 11 pm PST. Does this get anyone else's gears turning? I'm not usually one to help churn up rumors, but with 10.4.3 being recently seeded to developers, as well as iChat and .Mac upgrade speculation flying around, I can't help but get at least a little fired up. I mean: how often is it that all services are taken down? Usually it's one or the other, and rarely (at least in my two years of experience) is email actually down, let alone for 4 hours.

Hopefully, this is an answer to at least some of the complaints and feature requests from .Mac members everywhere. Just in case it isn't though: you don't get to yell at me, for I am just a fellow Mac geek, hoping for the best.

Well, something is up. The Apple Livepage has a blurb in the right sidebar saying "Explore new .Mac mail features" but the link is not active. See it here: http://www.apple.com/startpage/

I was given a copy of .mac a month ago but havent registered it yet, will these upgrades probably be patcheable (for the software stuff) - I assume present users would all get their storage upped. Would Apple swap an older & unused version of .mac for a new one? Doubtful?

I think the anniversary is significant. All of the original adopters are now coming up for renewal. I bought a family pack, registered it, but can't use it until the end of the month. I hope there'll be even more features added, or this will be my transition year off of .Mac

I feel like their may be some sort of move to allow either podcasts or blogs (to become more of a portal) but then I could also see them just introducing widgets, and thats all....

All I want is a speedier, more reliable email service and I will be happy.

Also keep in mind that renewal time is coming up for those who first signed on with .Mac. I'm thinking of not renewing my .Mac membership. But if the changes made to .Mac are interesting, worthwhile, and improve quality, then I just may stick with it another year.
