Google Talk works again on Mac: Whoop-de-doo...
Last night, when I was reading through my feeds, I noticed that Dori Smith discovered that Google Talk suddenly started working again in iChat after about a week of no service and connection errors.Considering how Google really dropped the ball on this one, yet again dissing the entire Mac community, who cares?
Wake me up when you come out with actual Mac software, Google. Until then, thanks for nothing.

There's always Gaim...
http://gaim.sourceforge.net
GoogleTalk works perfectly fine there, and Google has a page of other clients and how to configure them.
http://www.google.com/talk/otherclients.html
I fail to see the problem here.

It's a beta of software you're being provided for free. I am frankly glad Google is making their service work over an open protocol. And in the time the iChat support was down they managed to implement full Jabber support.

I don't think these two events are unrelated. That doesn't mean they've enabled MSN, Y! etc. but it means they probably have that intention. So Google is providing free cross-IM network telephony for iChat. Is it really so bad that it was down for a few weeks?! Or would you rather have yet another crappy IM client like the Windows Gtalk app for OSX?

What wasn't working in Gtalk? I've had it running on my G5 for a while now using the Jabber part of iChat. I haven't actually been talking with anyone, but it seems to be connecting to the server.

Dude,
Get over it.
It would make sense that software makers would target PCs first, due to their larger market share. Why is it that Mac users (and for the record, my home environment is a mixed PC/Mac environment) seem to feel somehow it's their right to have stuff developed for them?
I don't hear PC users whining about the fact that Apple doesn't go out of their way to support PC users, even though they sell stuff supposedly for both platforms.
Ever try to do the initial configuration of an airport express using a PC? Good luck.

Ferg, I think there's a huge difference between Apple Computer, a hardware and software company, and a product of theirs that is geared specifically to a Mac audience not working as nicely with a PC and Google, an Internet company that is supposed to be catering to a diversified group of Internet users.

Mac first, Mac best
Windows first, Windows worst

The concept of "get over it" is not in the Mac user's dictionary. There's no reason on earth for us to settle for anything. We use Macs to get a competitive edge. We appreciate vendors who supply us with high quality product that we can use to hone that edge. The business model which is based on porting Windows products to Mac hasn't been in vogue since Steve Jobs became CEO. We don't get a competitive edge by using an incomplete Windows port on the Mac. When we get crap, we're very helpful because we let people know right away. It beats being so utterly, completely silent that you have no idea where you stand.

I agree with the who cares statement. As it stands right now, Skype and Gizmo are far better than Google Talk. GTalk only has the Windows client, meaning only Windows users can have audio chats. With Skype and Gizmo users from Mac and Windows are able to have audio chat no matter what platform theyre on.

Personally I love the google talk client on Windows and can't wait for them to write a mac version (which shouldn't be that hard).
I love the simple interface, the fact that it already has my gmail inbox address book indexed, etc.

Who cares about a dedicated Mac client? If Gtalk ends up opening their network to the MSN Messenger and Yahoo Messenger networks, then we'll be able to get rid of those two apps and use iChat for all three. I don't know about you, but that's all I've been wanting out of iChat for years now.
