Tiger wins Popular Mechanics' Breakthrough Award
Here's one I didn't expect. When I look at Popular Mechanics magazine, my computer's operating system isn't something I expect to see mentioned on its pages, especially as the recipient of an award. Yet, the November 2005 issue features a photo and brief write-up of Tiger, as it receives a "Breakthrough Award" from the magazine:"[Tiger's] Spotlight search tool changes the way users find data on their computers. Spotlight goes beyond file names to comb through the contents of everything from e-mail to text documents to photos and movie files. Spotlight continually categorizes information from all locations, just like an online search engine."
Pretty cool. Like I said, I didn't know that Popular Mechanics' scope reached so wide. I'll have to check it out.

I'm another one set in my ways of logical file organisation. I only use Spotlight when I can't find something which, because I have a ridiculous memory for where I've put things, is not very often. No in fact, because Apple re-built the search mechanism in Mail, I DO use it quite a lot. I do appreciate that Spotlight, and other such technologies will be used more and more in the near future. I'd like to see Spotlight updated in Leopard. It works well most of the time, but it does have a few holes here and there.

I know I don't. I've used it about 5 times, total. I'm too set in my ways as far as my organizational methods -- I can't envision giving up my folders system for Spotlight.
