ultraEars SX70 earphones from ezGear

ezgearIf you're like me, you detest the darn earbud headphones that ship with iPods. Maybe my ears are horribly misshapen, but those things just keep popping out. I'm still in the market for a decent replacement, as the junky set I bought from the drug store just doesn't cut it (I know, big surprise).

The ultraEars SX70 earphones from ezGear ship with 3 pairs of noise reducing sleeves, each in a different size. Other features include a 9mm ceramic driver and what ezGear is calling "Direct2Ear audio technology." These headphones retail for $49.98US.

If you've tried these, or can recommend another decent, reasonably priced set, let us know.

These will run afoul of the "reasonably priced" requirement, but if you're an audiophile wannabe (as in want to be, but can't afford it), the Shure E3c's are fantastic. I bought mine off Amazon for $125 (they were on big sale, may still be). These are professional in-ear monitors turned into headphones for consumers, they're the real deal. Lots of companies claim to have blahblahblah technology to improve X or Y or whatever. I've listened to alot of expensive headphones in dealing with pro audio, and Shure in-ears are amazing. One caveat though, these are headphones you treat very well. Don't sleep on them, etc. I don't know how indestructible they are. Real audiophiles will just go straight for the E5's ($500), of course. ;)

Another vote for Etymotic Research ER6. They have 3 different models, but the ER6 comes are my favorites. They sound spectacular and really stay put in my ears, although they are a touch pricey. http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/er6.aspx

Hey #11 - i have the same headphones (but in black, this was before the iPod became mainstream) and the "under the chin" chord is really ment to go behind you neck from left to right. If my friends ever borrow them they always wear it below their chin so i understand why a lot of pople don't like them at first, because they don't understand that.

I maybe went the excessive route for whiteness and frugality. I bought a pair of white Sony MDR-EX71. I loved the sound, but hated the stupid under-the-chin-and-down-one-side design. So I cut apart the ear buds and re-soldered the Apple wires to the Sony earbuds and glued it all back together. It's been 4 months of near daily use with no problems.

I have the Sony white fontopia headphones, I use them heavily and they work great. Much better than the earbuds...

I use the JWIN JP-EB27 earbud behind the neck headphones. You can get them for $5 to $8. They are basically super comfy earbuds that don't fall out. And the best part? They are white.

don't buy the apple in-ear headphones, what ever you do. Not only is it tough to get a good fit, but mine fell apart within 1 year of not-intensive use (and silly me i've lost the receipt, so that's a waste of 40 bucks right there).

My vote goes out to the "Sony MDR-EX81LP Bud-Style Stereo Earphones", had mine since Dec04, still in love!

I have had a pair of white asian EX71's for just over a year, but one of the earbuds crapped out on me the other day. But I think I'll probably just end up buying them again because they're pretty cheap now, and to me they sound really good. I'm pretty rough on things and I'd rather trash $40 headphones than $140 headphones.
