iPod Price Drop pre-announcement?
An anonymous tipster just wrote in with this juicy bit of info: "iPod prices have already changed in retail stores. 20 is 249, U2 is 279, 60 is 349. Someone made a mistake at corporate." Have any of our readers been by a retail store today so we can confirm or refute this info?Anyone still taking bets on the announcement? My money is now on Updated iPods with an 80GB model at somewhere around $400-450. No video iPod though. I just don't think it is going to happen (even though I would by one immediately if it did).
UPDATE: Check out this leaked pic from the iLounge folks. Looks like I may be buying a new iPod...

It's a video iPod. iLounge had an exclusive shot of a silhouette advertisement for the new iPod, and the screen is quite a bit larger (though the image is down at the moment, as they've replaced it with a temporary bandwidth-conserving splash page).

A Harry Potter iPod? Did anyone see that coming?
Naturally the iPod video is soon to follow, so we can watch the HP films on it.

Shot of new iPod poster. Larger screen, headphone jack off-center.

I can see it happening, but I don't think there will be any push to get people to watch movies on it. I think it'll be all about video podcasts.
I do predict this for certain (and I thought this before seeing that picture): Smaller form factor, bigger display, bigger hard drives.

So there's a tiny chunk of something which claims to be from a new Ad? No, not buying it. ANYone could have made that.
Guess we'll see in an hour.

I stand by my video iPod claim, posters or not. May the stock forecasting offers start rolling in please...
Why? Jobs has said (paraphrasing) people sit in front of the computer to engage their mind, and in front of the TV to turn it off. He also said (as per Caolo's post), he could see a scenario where you'd want to broadcast stuff from one location to another. Did that with music, AirTunes and iPod. Right? You sit in front of the computer to make your playlists, walk away to enjoy the music. Why not the same idea with video?
Remember what happened with the Mac launch, behind the scenes. Apple wanted to make sure there was software, so they had "evangelists" like Guy Kawasaki. It's all about the content (software being content on the computer). The content here will probably begin as iTunes music videos, plus managed video output from iMovie. TV-out from the vPod will allow you to take your created content, plus that heavily-DRM'ed purchased content that C.K. loves so much...
KTLA predicts!

I really do hope Jobs announces actual computer upgrades instead of being a one trick iPod pony. If all these special announcements are going to be all about iPods, hype surrounding these events is going to dwindle and investors are going too get skittish.

and you'll see the full posters in place at the theater. The jpg at ilounge.com is just a highlight, so there's more than a tiny chunk.

I also predict that Apple stock is a bargain right now. The people who sold based on "disappointing" results after inflated expectations are fools.
Get ready to see it jump ... if the video iPod happens and it isn't another ROKR.

Load of balls, it's not going to be a video iPod. Yeah, SJ might announce a higher capacity iPod but I think his 'one more thing...' thing has to be something a bit more special than that or he would've announced it at the last special event, no?
I reakon a Dual Dual PowerMac G5 is on the cards. With roughly a year to go before all Macs are x86, Apple still has PowerPC-based products in the making.
Cheers;

Done and done. So it's got a bigger screen. Ah, so what? All the better to view pictures with, I say.
We'll see in half an hour, and I'll be happy to eat my words if I'm wrong.
