AirClick Can Control Front Row

Remember Griffin's AirClick USB, the remote control that can control some applications on your Mac? It has a USB RF receiver that plugs into a USB slot on your Mac. Turns out someone has hacked the AirClick USB to be able to control Front Row. So this means that if you have a new iMac G5 with Front Row (we all have the new iMac G5's, right?) in your entertainment center, you can now use the AirClick USB to control it. Advantages over Apple's remote? It uses an RF signal instead of infrared so the signal can pass through walls and doesn't require line-of-sight. And it also works with Macs that don't have the infrared receiver.

I have the Keyspan Remote and tried playing with the remote software last week but was unsucessful. All that would work was the left and right buttons on wrong keys and the escape command. is there a way to get this to work?

At work, as well as setting up Front Row on the PowerMac G5, we discovered that we could use the ATI Remote Wonder that we alrady had hooked up to control Front Row. Since the hack requires creating a custom key to launch the app, we just made one of the buttons emulate that key. Then we set another to emulate Esc. The play and pause buttons work perfectly. As well, using the Remote Wonder has another advantage. That is, when you use one of the letter keys that you haven't programmed, it will step back all the way out of Front Row automatically.

This is super. I think I'll pick one up tomorrow - but the deal-breaker is if I can control the volume. I'd love to be able to watch Frasier from afar, but I need to have volume control :/

I prefer the IR reciever over the range of the AirClick (the reviewers at Amazon complain about shorter range than promised) but I just ordered this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006OCZLM/ The Keyspan Remote Control, the IR receiver plugs into a usb port (Yeah, you can even plug it into your Airport Express) and comes with programmable software that can be custom fit for my bootleg copy of Front Row.
