Is Apple releasing a widget app called Dashcode?
Could apple be prepping a WYSIWYG widget-making app? Sure looks like it, if you check out screenshots in an Applenova forum thread that the Cult of Mac found. Looks like it has a few templates to use, along with javascript debugging and "a heck of a lot more!"This looks fairly legit, and if so, my only question is: why so long Apple? Tiger landed last April, and Dashboard widgets were one of your staple marketing tools for it. Why are we only seeing an editor like this seven months later?
[thanks Matthew!]

Maybe it's because Apple has other things planned for Dashboard, things that will require a ton more widgits. Say, if they became the primary user interface element for a remote control API. Then there would be a huge need for something like this. Wonder if there's a version for windows.
What kind of templates are they offering?

Very interesting, thanks. I've thought about tinkering with widgets, just might do it if there was a dedicated tool.

It's HyperCard reborn!!!
Anyway I hope so...
As for why it was not part of the original Tiger release, isn't the reason obvious? They had other priorities, like fixing bugs in DashBoard :)

They just started now because they clearly took the Idea straight from Wcode. There are so many similarities in the look and feel of it.

My feeling is that Widgets will eventually come to the iPod Screen. They are a perfect match, and would instantly make the iPod a fully featured PDA. Pretty sneaky Steve :)

Looks cool, but too developer oriented for most people. What would really be nice is a consumer oriented app. My blog post on dashcode gives my take on this.
