Update: Nokia Browser based on Safari Web Kit
Nokia announced this week that they have put the finishing touches on their browser for the S60 platform which used Apple's Safari Web Kit. Our own C.K. reported on the plans for this Nokia-Apple friendly move back in June. In their press release, Nokia notes: "the new Web browser for S60 is based on the WebCore and JavaScriptCore
components of Apple's Safari Web Kit, the industry's smallest and
fastest open source full Web rendering engine for mobile devices that
Apple uses in its popular Safari Internet browser." As well as Apple's contribution, KDE's KHTML was also used by Nokia for this browser in a collaborative open source move rarely seen by large corporations. Bravo Nokia, but would you please consider opening up the API's to the firmware for your phones too? Some of us hardware hacker types like to make your phones do cool new stuff.

Oh but I would SO love to recode my music player on my Nokia 6230. Yes, yes I know I'm dreaming.

Fabienne, if YOU make cool new stuff for Nokia phones, then THEY can't roll out those same features on an entirely new phone 90 days later and charge a gigantic premium. Genius!
