1) Show Package Contents 2) Open the .dist file with SubEthaEdit or some other nice Editor (*g*) 3) locate the function "installationCheck()" 4) replace it so it just returns true anyways function installationCheck() { return true; } 5) save 6) install

Interestingly, I actually have a new iMac G5 but the update won't install on my machine. Interesting, huh?

The official FrontRow binaries (both the original and this update) check for presence of the Infrared firmware and quit if it isn't present. Hopefully JacksonBrown will release an updated version for unsupported machines, based on 1.0.1. In the meantime, http://www.macminicenter.com/wiki/index.php?title=Front_Row_101:How-To describes how to apply 1.0.1 to get the fixes for the DVD Player.

Ditto. I have a Mac Mini and the Front Row.app doesn't work. I replaced with the original version and it works fine. This "update" is clearly meant to prevent use on other systems rather than be a true update. That's too bad, Apple, people seemed to like this app. Why would they limit it to specific models when it clearly can run fine on other models?

I installed it on my iMac G4 (yes, gee four) with Pacifist (http://www.charlessoft.com/), since the installer requires an iMac G5 with built-in iSight, I installed everything included on the package, an update to DVD Player, BezelServices.framework, BezelServices.loginPlugin and Front Row.app. It doesn't work. It bounces once and sometimes twice on the dock and it stops without launching, even after restarting. So, of course I kept a backup of the old version and replaced the new one on CoreServices and everything is fine now. It could feel a little bit more smooth now, but that could just be me. Conclusion: if you're not on an iMac G5, don't install.

I just hope it doesn't break support for "other" systems.
