Acorn PowerBooks in January?

acornI took my kids to see the latest attempt by Disney to "kill" Pixar: "Chicken Little." It's much better than "Valiant," but then so was "Manos: The Hands of Fate" so that's not saying much. Well anyway, there's this laptop computer in the movie, and it just so happens to look like our favorite logo-glowing Apple laptops. Except instead of an Apple, it's got an acorn glowing on the cover. Is this an homage to the original Acorn computer? Is it a nod to the current Acorn systems? Or is this Disney leaking info about a top-secret nut-based PowerBook due in January? Time will tell...

I think that Disney is taking a little shot at Apple because Pixar dumped them.

from the pic, it sure looks like a widescreen format display, as is being forecast for the new iBooks & Powerbooks, so "who knows?"

also, their are powerbooks in the new tv serires on sky one, - "treshold", but with no apple writing on it, and a strange circular logo, where the glowing apple logo should be on the lid

I agree with Extensor. Disney fired all of their creative talent two years ago! I saw Chicken Little on Thursday... Sucked! Animation was 1995 Toy Story quality and the plot was weak. It was clearly a "kids movie" which is a clear departure from Disney's traditional way of thinking of making movies for the entire family (usually with jokes and references that are over the kid's head). The only thing that would even make an adult smile would be the many song references from the disco era. But again, if a parent has kids now, that's probably not the right music to make them laugh. Grandparents perhaps...

Bonus Points for a Manos reference.

Or maybe Disney should hire some good story people and leave the creative decisions to them and not the management. :P

Well-known movie reviewers frequently write glowing reviews of real stinkers, either to guarantee they are quoted, or (more likely) they're on the take. When even the reviewers can't find a good word to say about Chicken Little, you know it's *really* bad. Every review I read said Chicken Little stunk, and every one suggested that Disney give up on movies and get back in bed with Pixar. Unfortunately, Disney probably won't take that advice. I'm always looking for good movies to take my girls to, but I have to limit it to two or three a year. If only Pixar could up their output . . .

Having seen the movie with my granddaughter, it's simply a nod to Apple, using the fictional town's name and theme (Oakley Oaks). I wonder how soon we'll see true knock-offs, regardless of the Acorn computer company's history.

I see nods like this everywhere, the other day I was watching "Fairly Odd Parents" and one of the characters had a laptop with a little glowing pear on it.
