SNL pokes fun at Jobs and the iPod
I checked out of SNL a long time ago, but last night is the first time that I've heard they've made a significant pun on Steve Jobs or Apple, at least in a long time. Apparently a mock-Jobs showed up on SNL's Weekend Update sketch and, taking quite a bit of a hint from the iPod flea, introduced a few new iPods for the holiday season. Whether you're still an SNL fan or you've stopped tuning in, the sketch is at least good for a chuckle.Opinions on the show aside though, I think this is kind of cool in its own little way. Steve's personality and dramatic flair are typically known only to those who really follow the company and watch his keynotes - yet the mock-Jobs on Weekend Update was in character. I guess the iPod isn't the only thing that's been making its way into households. Maybe next weekend they'll feature Ive obsessing over the design of his travel coffee mug.

Typical of SNL though, they take a good idea and drag it on for too long, but it was still pretty funny. The hands-to-the-face thing at the end was pretty spot-on, I'm sure he had to watch many (or at least one of the) keynotes to get that right.

I knew he had watched some keynote clips when he paused at the beginning and the "Well it's here." Some of the stuff in the middle doesn't really sound like Jobs, but the general speech is good...

SNL is like the Dell of comedy these days and has been for many years. Still, it's good to see the Apple exposure in the mainstream. I switched to MadTV years ago but still DVR SNL for moments like this.

I saw that sketch last night as I am a frequent watcher, and enjoyer, of SNL. I laughed so hard. I remembered the iPod Flea pun a few weeks ago that was mentioned here at TUAW. It was a great sketch.

"Obsolete" does not sound like Steve but,
"A MILLION SONGS!"
"A MILLION SONGS!"
Does.

It was funny to see, but it was lame. SNL has been crap for a few years now. I used to tune in more, but I mostly ditch it for re-runs on Discovery since those are usually better.

Doesn't make sense to me that they're bad just coz they tried mocking Stevie...
I was on the couch, at first I thought the actor wasn't really getting a hold of 'Steve's way' of talking/introducing things, but when he stood between the two ladies and pulled the ipod ... (don't remember what he called it) then just said "It's faaahnnntastic" I laughed my a$$ off, he sure did say it pretty much the same way Steve does, then the iPod invisible that was funny too, all in all good job SNL

"you can listen to music, synch up with ical, watch movies--fantastic."
--very steve, very funny.

It wasn't very funny, but he pretty much nailed Jobs' mannerisms (but not his voice). It doesn't really surprise me, though SNL has always been a pretty big posterboy for being an all-Apple show (and hell, Ferrell did a commercial for Apple).

>SNL mocks Steve = SNL is crap.
Not being in the US, I have no idea about SNL. But many of the posts here specifically mention that people didn't like the program already before this Jobs skit ever came along. I don't know how you could jump to the "SNL mocks Steve = SNL is crap" judgement regarding the comments here.

I'm all for mocking Steve. Hell, the guy has it coming. And I think the origal point of the blog is pretty interesting, too: Steve Jobs has obviously made it to the mainstream if the writing staff at SNL has decided to mock him.
But it wasn't all that funny. I mean, there are a couple moments where they nail him. And those made me smile. (or was it a chuckle?) But Xenedar's got a point. Many of us think that SNL usually isn't funny. Lots of people think that their skits take a funny idea and then beat it to death. I certainly think so. I'm not suggesting comedy sketch writing is easy. Nor am I suggesting I could do better. I'm not even suggesting that these opinions are held by a majority. But for those of us who find it hard to laugh at SNL, this skit was par for the course.
But as they say in the theater biz: if they're laughing, at least they're paying attention!

Kind of funny. But if I was a network exec I'd cancel that show in two seconds. It sucks. I don't understand who watches it anymre.

I'd love to see more parodies of His Steveness. I'd just prefer to see them well-acted.

Speaking of SNL and Apple... surely someone else has to remember their McIntosh Jr. and McIntosh Post-It Notes parodies from long ago.
And here are links to those, just for the record, found via Google:
