Quicksilver: Append and prepend

quicksilverThere's no point beating around the bush, TUAW loves Quicksilver. We all use it, and most of us couldn't imagine using our Macs without it (at least I know I can't).

We are also total productivity nerds because we need to stay organized to keep pumping out all this great content for you, our loving readers. 43Folders is a mecca for all productivity lovers, and today Merlin, the man behind the folders, offers up a quick Quicksilver tip: Append and prepend.

"Append to..." is a Quicksilver command that will append whatever text you have typed to a text file. Merlin offers up a number of different ways you might want to use this, so check out his post for the skinny.

You know, I only really need the dock for all the apps I use. I go into the App folder about once every 3 or 4 days. Even there, I just look at the pretty icon pictures. I don't think my lazy a$$ brain likes to wake from it's coma like state to think of the name of the smaller apps. It likes the pretty icon pictures. Also with the documents, I really don't even use them that much. Most of the documents I use are loaded with the programs I use, ie FCP. I don't even use Word or Excel that often. If I knew of some other benefits to Quicksilver, I'd reconsider. It is pretty neat.

Quicksilver is good. But I'm a Butler man through and through: http://www.petermaurer.de/nasi.php?section=butler http://systemsboy.blogspot.com/2005/06/love-affair-with-butler.html Curious, though: Does QS have anything over Butler? Anyone care to compare? -systemsboy

I haven't "clicked" into my Applications folder in months, I love Quicksilver. I sympathize with Pete though, I ONLY use it for app launching and I know it has a ton of other useful abilities, none very well-documented. fishes, narco. Man, that *is* fun. Robert Knight

Pete - once you get used to hitting the hotkey and typing in the name of whatever app you want to run, or file you want to launch - you'll be addicted. That's just the tip of what Quicksilver can do - but I think it's the main feature used.

Could you please provide some info on tutorials or manuals for Quicksilver. I downloaded it and tried using it but I don't think I got to it's real usefulness. I heard there was a tutorial included but I didn't see it and I couldn't navigate through there measegeboard real easily. Maybe I only gave it a half-hearted attempt but whould you mind helping a brotha out?
