Black Friday Apple Store deals

apple_sale.gifIf you've been waiting for the Black Friday deals at the Apple Store, here's a quick rundown on the Store's online deals for today only:
  • You can get $101 off iMacs and iBooks in various configurations, bringing starting prices to $1198 for an iMac G5 and $898 for an iBook G4. Those prices are just $1 less than the normal Apple Education Store prices.
  • Apple's most tempting items–iPods with video and iPod nanos–are not discounted, but Apple is offering free laser engraving.
  • One of the best deals is the iSight, down to $118 from $149, beating out the Education price of $129. There are also some good deals on accessories. My favorites are the Griffin RoadTrip FM for $58, iPod nano Lanyard Headphones for $34, the Apple Mighty Mouse for $38, dot Mac membership for $68.95, and AirPort Express for $98.
  • Free shipping on all gift items sweetens the pot.

I too caved in on the .mac subscription. (I've been using the trial to sync my PowerBook and Mini and I really love that feature. As a student working on a dissertation, I also like the iDisk for added backup and portability of my documents.) The other one-day discounts seemed a little ho hum unless you were about to make the leap and purchase an iMac or iBook for X-mas gifts.

I finally caved in and got myself a .mac subscription. I think with tax it was still a good $25 or $30 off, which is a pretty excellent dea. I've been using the demo for 45 days now, so I was going to have to pay for it sooner or later anyway, as I've become completely addicted to syncing my contacts and calendar between my 3 computers.

I was waiting for this with lots of anticipation... but guess what? NOT happening in Japan - either online or at the stores themselves. This is disappointing, because the announcements say nothing about limiting this sale to the US. Thanks a lot Apple for delaying or stopping my purchase of a new iMac.

JBL Creature II Speakers $149 Canadian? Some discount, the same speakers are on sale for $99 up here, and sell for $149 normally. Mind you Beast Buy and Fungus Shop only have the white.

What about all the deals on the Shure in-ears? Those looked like the best deals to me: E5 - $398 (Normally $500) E4 - $238 (Normally $300) E3 - $138 (Normally $180) E2 - $78 (Normally $100)

What is notable is that though Canadian Thanksgiving was way back in early October but the same deals are available up here. (Up as in North, not Up as in distance from the axis of rotation or the Earth). $30 off an iSight isn't anything to cough at.

I'd like to point out that "Free Laser Engraving" isn't even a discount, laser engraving has always been free when you order online.

These "deals" are pretty underwhelming. I'm sorry I ever gave in to the hype.
