iPods selling (sort of) like mad
Just in case there was any doubt in your mind, Macworld UK is reporting that iPod sales skyrocketed over the holiday weekend. Nano numbers "shot up" 95 percent for the black model, and 88 percent for the white. Best Buy sold out of both 4 GB versions, and Amazon reported the nano as their 6th best-selling item in the US.So where's the 5G iPod with video? We've had reports that supply might not meet demand based on hardware component shortages, but not reports of empty shelves. I know it's only the Monday after Black Friday, but I still find it interesting that neither retailers nor analysts nor even Apple themselves have mentioned even a thing about the 5G iPod's status so far. What about you readers, in the front lines? Were customers trampling each other over the weekend to get their hands on a 5G iPod, or is it all about the nano?
As a follow-up: Were you by any chance the one doing the trampling?

I visited the Apple store at Kansas city this weekend to get myself a 2GB iPod Nano (This is my first iPod and I just love it!). My wife was thrilled too, she loved the clickwheel and ease of use. We are treating it as a piece of art. Now coming to the sales of iPod video, I stood at the sales counter after spending an hour or so experiencing the beauty of Mac. I stood for about 10 minutes there and I saw about 4 or 5 iPod Video's being sold in that time. This was not on Black Friday, I went the next day and the store was brimming with people.

No trampling necessary.
I don't shop on Black Friday, never have never will. I went into the Apple Store here to get 2 Nanos and a 5G video as gifts and they had plenty. No waiting, pushing, shoving, or strange children spreading funkiness.

At the first Amazon report, I saw that the 30GB video iPod was in the top 20 for electronics (#9 IIRC). It's currently at #16, right below the PSP and black 2GB nano.

I waited til Sunday, and picked up a 5G iPod at Best Buy. They only had 60gb models left, but in both colors.

I trampled digitally. My 5G iPod is enroute from Shanghai.

I don't shop on Black Friday... I don't actually do much shopping away from my desktop... But I picked up my 5G 60GB the week it came out at the Apple Store Galeria while on a business trip in Houston.... Apple never has enough supply of a hot item.... Not as bad as Microsoft with the 360 but close enough...

Well I would have been, if apple hadn't removed the Firewire syncing support. I'm not going to buy a new laptop (I have a revA 12" powerbook - no USB2) just so I can sync my iPod. And no, syncing over USB1.1 is not an option.
