Tiger's Mail folder list could learn something from Ecto

Ecto drawer placementI'm a big fan of Ecto, a robust blogging client for both OS X and Windows that we've covered here on TUAW in the past. The design of Ecto's main window was inspired by the list of mailboxes and folders in Tiger's Mail app, but I just found out that Ecto took another crucial step that Apple really needs to pick up on: allowing the list to be moved to either side of the window, as so many users have asked for. In Ecto, a user can simply right-click on the list's resize button for a popup menu (pictured) allowing the drawer to be moved to either side of the window.

Apple, if you're listening (and you'd better be), please grab a demo of Ecto and take some notes.

Nathan Callahan: Yea, it changed in Tiger. They "updated" Mail's UI and the "drawer" is gone; its more of a list of mailboxes and folders that's incorporated into the Mail window. While it's hide-able, it's now docked on the left side of the window.

Huh? I'm still running Panther until I get a bit of spare cash, but can't you drag a message off either side of the window and have the mailbox drawer automatically go there in Mail.app anymore? Or, stick the window on the edge of the screen and open and close the mailbox drawer and have the drawer open on the side where there's space. Has this changed on Tiger? It's been there since 10.0 as far as I know.
