Holiday employee T-shirts at Apple Stores
ifo Apple Store is reporting that Apple Store employees are wearing red T-shirts and sweatshirts with amusing phrases this season, including, "It's the thought that counts. It's just hard to wrap," "Keep? Give? Keep? Give? Keep? Give?," and my personal favorite, "The gifts that others will be exchanged for." ifo Apple Store also notes that employees are using wireless point-of-sale devices throughout the stores, and are able to check people out right as they stand in the aisles. They scan your purchase, swipe your card and you're all set. That's great, as standing in those holiday lines is a special type of agony. The shirts worn by these particular employees read, "May I check you out? It's my job."

That is sweet, makes me want to go to my Apple store and purchase something just to checkout while standing in the aisle. Seriously, that's awesome.

The only dissapointing thing is that the handhelds are pocket pcs and dont get to excited that they are running a pre-release of the x86 tiger...nope they are using windows for pocet pc's...cool ideal but I just got excited about the possibility of Apple returning to its Newton heydays.

"Keep? Give? Keep? Give? Keep? Give?," reminds me of the ABC Shop (The Australian Broadcasting Corporation Shop that is) adverts where they say "Gifts so good, you won't want to give them away".
"May I check you out? It's my job." has to be one of the most interesting slogan's that I have heard.
Shame my work doesn't have Wireless checkouts, our registers are quite old (it's an Australian department store).

Those wireless devices the Apple Store employees are using run Windows and they crash and hang constantly. I hear the employees hate them with a passion and wish the Newton was called up back up for some holiday handheld duty.

"I have you in mi-sight"
"It maybe small but it fits right in your pocket"
It was worth a try

Leave it to Apple to start using those portable checkout scanners before anyone else. They are the bomb, and are one of the best thing about eating in European restaurants.
Wide adoption of this device, please : )

I'm glad Apple is using these, but they were beaten to it by an Indiana-based carwash chain, Mike's Express Carwash (I am only affiliated as a customer).
This year, they introduced these wireless POS devices. Great technology!

I've seen those things in the mini Apple stores - the ones that take up around 1/4 to 1/2 of the room of your standard mall store. Bethesda, Maryland is a good example of this kind of store - basically, there really isn't room for a proper checkout and a genius bar, so they just stick a Genius Bar in the far corner of the store and scan you on the sides with portable scanners, if I remember right. Its been a while, as it costs to park in Bethesda Row, and the Montgomery Mall Apple Store is closer anyway. Anyway, nice to see this has been added and made even better with the ability to swipe credit cards.
