I have built and posted a G4-optimized version of Firefox 1.5 that you can download from http://www.beatnikpad.com/firefoxG4 This is identical to the G5-optimized build except that it is tuned specifically for the G4 processor.

The only issue for me is that initiating downloads can cause my powerbook's hard drive to spin obnoxiously.

Folks, the Firefox name and icon are reserved for the official releases only - 3rd party builds can't use either. The RC3 build was released on the 16th (I think?) which explains the old mod date for the G5 optimized build. Trust me, you're getting the real thing... but at any rate, there's a newly spun build from today just for those people who like seeing 20051130 in their build ID. :) I'll take a crack at building a G4-optimized build of 1.5 tonight - my Powerbook needs some optimized Firefox goodness too...

November 30 2005 at 5:26 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThomas: The Nov 17 date is expected. The official FF 1.5 was compiled Nov 11, and the G% version was compiled after that.
November 30 2005 at 2:07 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyHow 'bout a G4 optimized version? Anyone know where I can get one?
November 30 2005 at 11:16 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyYes, DeerPark is the code name for Firefox 1.5. And I know the guy who recompiled Firefox 1.5 for G5. He's been doing it for quite some time. There's nothing fishy going on...download and it and enjoy. Neil Lee has been an asset to the Macintosh community for a long time.
November 30 2005 at 10:52 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI saw "Deer Park" too. I know that's what it was called but it also seemed as the last modified date was Nov 17th. So I skipped the G5 version for now as it seems a little fishy.
