Skype phone gains Mac support
Ipevo is offering a beta Mac OS driver for their Free-1 Skype phone. When connected to a Mac via USB, users can launch Skype by pressing a button on the phone. For SkypeOut, just press the "+" button and you're on your way.An actual phone is nice, but I'm still not making the switch to Skype. Call me a cynic. Then again, I don't even own a cell phone, so maybe I'm the weird one.

Dave, what do you use for LD calls, some other VoIP phone? This Skype phone now looks like a promising piece of hardware for us Mac users. I currently use a USB headset which works very well. I bought the Plantronics .Audio 85 headset, made for Mac and available ONLY from Apple. When I'm at home and short on my cell minutes, I use Skype on my PowerBook for LD. Calls to other Skype users are free to anywhere on earth, and my calls to landline users run less than 2 per minute. -- Hey, thanks for the HeadsUp on this!

Kurt, just wanted to mention that I use my Bluetooth earpiece for Skype calls. Of course it doesn't give you the ability to just punch in a number, but it's a great solution for those of us who have a BT-enabled PowerBook.

smilespray, which bluetooth phone works with Skype on your Powerbook?
I've been told they don't work that way, and only with the cell phone you usually buy them for. Thanks, Dan

Ok, I'll call you a cynic! Anyway you don't have to "make the switch" to Skype. You can use Skype as well as your usual method of telecommunication. I live in the US and my family are in the UK. I use only Skype now to talk to my parents. We both have USB headsets and the quality is almost always excellent. I gave up my landline about 10 months ago and have not regretted it once. I'm glad I got rid of it and I now have great monthly mobile phone plan with T-Mobile for my US phone needs. Skype is great, at least for my needs. Free talk to my family in the UK! Nothing wrong with that. Unless you're a cynic of course! :-)
