Rejoice, Rejoice. Comments are back!

Happy MacOur technical elves were running themselves ragged over the weekend, and now all is as it was. Comments are back on, and we encourage you to share your wit, wisdom, and snark with us freely and copiously.

Go on, comment on this post... see if you still remember how it feels.

Update: Just got a phone call from an angry server elf. He let me know that comments can be submitted, but it might be a little while before they display on the page. We're getting there folks, so hang in there!

The Update Strikes Back: Ok, so it looks like our comment woes are over.

Hey, everyone,

Calm down.

We're working on all these issues. Should be returning to normal soon.

Content maybe king, but the king has just been beaten down with an ugly stick! Also, for some reason, if I use my browser's (Safari) back button to get back to the main page, I get the main page from two days ago. I know I can kill my cache to cure that, but I've never had to before.

Truthfully, I'm happy that one of my favorite websites is back on the air, but I am also disheartened to see that it appears to be a hackneyed version of its former self (appearance and coding wise). I know that this is not a reflection of the TUAW bloggers, who I like and respect. This, however, strengthens my dislike for this blog's new parents.

This is just a suggestion to work on your CSS a bit to tidy up what everyone seems to be complaining about. For instance, the first class you define in your CSS document sets everything to 0 margin, 0 padding. This seems to be retained by some page elements that should have margins and padding (e.g. the blog roll, which has some CSS issues of its own on top of that) while other page elements that would work better without margins (the comments) or padding (the topics list) have independently defined margins and padding.

I know you've been working on server issues (as autoblog put it, doing an entire platform change including engine and drivetrain to a 1965 mustang converting it to all modern parts), but the CSS could be taken care of quickly. Since this is coming from someone who is often guilty of posting up sites with poor CSS and fixing it ten minutes later, you should believe me! I hope you resolve everything.

Long live TUAW!

Yes, it really sucks folks, but ad blocking extensions and software is a bad idea. Don't succumb to the knee-jerk "this is easiest for me" solution. You think that you are helping yourself by using these tools. Well, not only are you actually hurting yourself (but like all things in Western society, if the effect is not immediate, and accompanied by a bell to tell us what to associate the effect with, we don't recognize it), but if you even halfway care about human beings trying to make a legitimate living on the internet, you won't use them.

No matter how much you gripe about the layout, remember that Content is king. The rest is just window dressing.

Turn on adblock, my friends. This isn't the only site with ads. Might as well get them all out of the way, too.

OMG, the interface is HORRIBLY broken!

i'm using firefox to block ads and it still looks like crap... even without the ads.

i tried turning off adblock and it still looks like crap. :(

i'm very disheartened today.

P.S. still haven't gotten my email about the Griffin RoadTrip that we are all getting for entering the contest.
