Camino 1.0 Beta 2 released
The Camino Project has released Camino 1.0 Beta 2, a substantially updated version of its native Mac OS X browser.
This beta features improvements to rendering accuracy and speed, bookmark and history management, preferences, and
plugin support. The release notes list lots of changes
since Beta 1, which came out in November. This version of the browser is billed as "the stable beta" for use on Mac OS X 10.2 or later (it doesn't run on Mac OS X 10.1), and is close to its final shipping state. So if you're a Camino fan (or if you're just fed up with Firefox like some people we know), be sure to download Camino 1.0 Beta 2 and check it out.

You mean http://www.caminobrowser.org/download/releases/1.0b2/ for the download?

This is kinda old, but it's great to give Camino some attention. It's far better than Firefox on OS X while it still uses Gecko. Fox is a Java app, while Camino is Cocoa, so you can feel the difference and the nativeness of it. I've been using it a lot lately, always open behind Safari as a backup (and for some testing), because, at least on my Mac, it's more stable. I think it even uses Keychain, so most of the complaints on the open letter are covered, at lest on the "OS X-ability" side. It'd be my primary browser, but I like the rendering of the WebKit better.

I love Camino. It's faster and more stable than Safari. After using Camino for a long time, Safari feels so slow and clunky.

WAKE UP CHRIS

Camitools is basically adblock and a bunch of other extra prefs for Camino. I'll still use Omniweb, but every time they mess with Camino I will always give it a spin.

Firefox isn't a java app, it's carbon.
I was using camino for a while, but I've switched back to FF because of some cool new extensions. I prefer camino but the extra features you can get with extensions make FF a better option. And I've found that if you are careful with extensions, FF is nearly as speedy as camino (I had some really bad performance but finally managed to track it down to one extension).

I am so ready to switch to Camino, as the new Firefox 1.5 just isn't cutting it for me and I hate Safari. The only reason that both Safari and Firefox are better is because I can synchronize bookmarks between many machines with both, and as far as I can tell, I can't with Camino. Someday this should be required of a browser.

I've been using it for several hours now and it seems to be very fast and stable. Every website I've gone to renders quickly and looks good.
The adblocker and pop up stopper both both work very well... although I think that using the adblocker slows down the rendering of some pages... Camino seems to be fighting it ouw with the ad-servers. Fortunately it's winning!

I've been a Camino user since ... sheesh, I don't know... it was called Chimera. It almost went end-of-life with Safari's release. But Camino beats out every browser on the Mac in one area.
Camino is fast.
Now for me, speed is the most important feature in any browser. And Camino has always been the defacto standard in this arena.
