Apple announces iWork 06
Apple also
announced iWork 06 at today's keynote, bringing major updates to both Pages
and Keynote, though some kind of much-requested spreadsheet application did not arrive. New in Pages 2 are more
Apple-designed Templates, 3D charts, freeform curves, shapes and masks, tables with calculations (semi-spreadsheet
abilities), Mail Merge with Address Book and reviewer comments which allow you to add reminders, comments and todo
lists in a document sidebar.Keynote 3 gains HD themes, cinematical transitions, 3D charts, the same freeform curves, shapes and masks as Pages, tables with calculations and the same reviewer comment features.
iWork 06 has the same pricing scheme as iLife 06: $79 for a single license, $99 for a 5-pack, and is available now from Apple's online store.

This sounds about as yawnsome as you can get. If the rumours about iWork 05 being very poorly received were true, this absolutely isn't going to help

Crazy thought here - maybe if Apple added some actual word processing features to Pages, such as the ability to alphabetically sort a list, or password-protect a document, it might start selling.

I don't know any other software that doesn't offer at least some upgrade discount for current users. I bought iWork when it came out, and it's been disappointing enough that I scarcely ever use it. Nevertheless, I would have kept the software current if there had been some relatively economical way to do it. As is, I'll wait for something better to come along.

Yes, I'd like to see an upgrade path. There are a couple of featuresin Pages I'd like to have like auto-correct. Granted, it is a real low price, but anyone economically minded, and has the previous release would like some sort of upgrade price cut. The new features aren't worth the full price upgrade.

I'm with Richard and Sixhoursago on this, I find it thoroughly annoying that I am not given some small incentive for having stuck my neck out and spent a considerable amount of money (for a largely un-inspiring and experimental application) on iWork 05 to support what looked like a promising start to the development of a decent alternative to the MS office package - I didn't need to make that outlay as I already had Office 2004 - now if I want to try and move over to the apple alternative I am expected to fork out on another full license... disgusting...
