My "head-slap" moment from Steve's Keynote
The January keynote
is usually a doozy, and today's was no exception...not by a long shot. For me, there's always that one moment that
causes me to smack my hand against my forehead and just say, "Wow." This year, it wasn't the flash of iLife
'06, the shiny new Mactels or even the .Mac enhancements. No, this year I was blow away to see that iDVD now
supports third party DVD burners! Holy cow! *smack*How long have we Mac users clamored for this, and how long has Apple used their non-compliance as a means to sell Macs? Finally, Apple. Thank you.
So, what was your "head-slap" moment? I know you all had one.

My moment was the camera built in to the laptop. Wow, portable Videoconferencing!

My "head-slap" moment came when I realized the show was over and they hadn't announced my Intel Mac mini media center. Bah!

My head slap moment had to be:
"What happened to the Multimedia Mac Mini????"
Of course, I'm imagining myself slapping Jobs' head--or mine for believing that "too good to be true" rumor--or as I like to call them Trumors.
OH well, I guess I can still save up for a Mac Mini AND a video capture device.
So very sad...

The fact that 10.4.4 is completely native on Intel. This is huge.
When Apple made the transition from 68K to PPC, significant portions of the OS were still emulated (including the Finder if IIRC.) This might _finally_ make the OS X experience as snappy as Mac OS 9.

I agree, but my moment was the FM tuner for the iPod. I wonder if the fact that a third party DVD burner is supported means we may see future macs with no built in optical drive?

Mine was when I realized that they updated the line that was most recently updated and purchased by me a month ago. Damn you , Apple! At least the only iMac improvement eems to be speed and I haven't really maxxxed this one out yet.

Tie. Either MagSafe or iWeb. Not iWeb in itself though, but the incredible ease it apparently is to use. No menu-button-clicking to use the crop or rotate tool, no worrying about resizing pictures, etc. Just Drag and Drop. Simple. Mac.

The "what have we changed" sequence caused me to grin.
MagSafe, I actually clapped.
