I think MacBookPro is fine, but MacBook leaves too many questions. like "I have a MacBook." "Oh, really? a MacBookPro?" "No, just a MacBook."

I believe that it will stay iBook. BUT maybe they are going to have 3 total Laptop models. 13" iBook, 15" MacBookPro and Maybe a 17" MacBookPremire??

I think MacBook Pro sounds horrific. They should definitely have called it ProBook or something.
But I don't think the 'Pro' necessarily indicates there will be another MacBook. It might as well associate it with the Intel PowerMac, which would then be called Mac Pro or something similar. I think they should keep the lowercase i in the names anyways, it's very well recognisible.

I'd just go for 'MacBook'.

Why? Simple:

Desktop:
- Mac mini
- iMac
- Mac Pro (nee, PowerMac)

Portables:
- MacBook
- MacBook pro

I say they should have stuck with PowerBook. Or maybe PowerBook Pro. It was the best product name in the history of computers. And mainstream consumers never knew what a PowerPC chip was anyway. Heck, most of didn't even know what a G4 was.
That being said, I think it will be MacBook for the 12-13 inch laptop, and MacBook Pro for the 15 and 17. The only thing that makes me doubt that is the education market, whether the price point and durability of the iBook is indispensable. Hmmm....

PowerBook -> MacBook Pro
iMac G5 -> iMac (no G5, get it?)
iBook G4 -> HappyBook (ala HappyMeal)
MacMini -> MacNugget
PowerMac G5 -> BigMac
XServe -> Royale w/ Cheese

I go along with plain old MacBook, not just for the reasons mentioned by others already, but because Steve actually said during the keynote that 'MacBook Pro' was "a new name, because we're done with 'power' and we want 'Mac' in the name of our products." 'Mac' is already there in iMac, but not in iBook, so my bet's definitely on 'iBook' being replaced with 'MacBook'.

That still leaves a problem, though: what will Apple call the Intel Power Mac? 'Mac Pro', perhaps? Or 'Pro Mac'?

oh, i meant to add that the difference btw "iMac" and "iBook" is that the former already contains "Mac" and therefore we WILL lose the brand "iBook" in favor of "Macbook"

let's not forget that Powerbooks were called "Powerbooks" long before they had PowerPC processors in them. i can KIND OF understand wanting to git rid of that association, but they have SO MUCH BRAND RECOGNITION in that name. ughhh.

that said, i'll have to say that the iBook will be called "Macbook". bummer.

so what's a G5 successor going to be called??? Mactop Pro?? Mac Pro??

I think y'all are right. The iBook will remain the iBook, but what will the Power Mac become? Here's hopeing they don't just replace "Power" with "Mac" or else we'll all be wanting the new eight core MacMac come this summer.
