Comparing the MacBook Pro to other laptops

Lots of people have been throwing out their thoughts and opinions about the new Macbook Pros (I'm still not used to that name), but Tristan has gone to the effort of creating a chart comparing the new MacBooks to the Powerbooks of yore (i.e. last week) and to an Acer laptop.
How did the MacBook measure up? You'll have to read his post to see

Let's also not forget the issue of OS and included software. I know we're trying to compare apples to apples, and I think it's safe to say that Apple has put a lot more work into creating a powerful, feature packed, easy to use operating system, including a boatload of multimedia software that consistently wins in comparisons to more expensive suites.
You have to count everything you're spending your money on, not just hardware speed and feature specs.

For the last 2-3 years, we've all been buying Apple notebooks that are light-years behind the offerings of other companies in speed. However, the OS has always done quite a bit to compensate for this. Now that we have an Apple laptop that is virtually comparable to those in the Windows world (though slightly slower by the numbers) the OS is efficient enough to give it a tremendous lead, I think. And the Acer that he highlighted is actually $2900 with the features it had, virtually the same deal that you get with a $2900 MacBook Pro.
And I absolutely agree with Dave; the software included with the Mac is insurmountable by a Windows PC. I already placed my order for a decked-out MacBook that I'll be using all through college.

Also there is no dual-layer dvd on the new macbook, which is a setback

The processor is much slower as well. Why they didn't give us a choice of the 2.16 I will never understand.

Doesn't anyone else think that the iBook will be called the MacBook and that's why they've called the PowerBook the MacBook Pro???
But I'm not even a mac user so maybe u guys don't think like this...?

The unability to run Virtual PC and the new, smaller card-slot puts me off to buy the MacBook Pro (for the moment)
