Vista will run on the Intel Macs

Now that we know Windows will be able to run on the new Intel Macs the question becomes which version of Windows will work with them. Due to the BIOS on the new Macs Windows XP will not run on them yet (we'll have to wait for a hacker to do something about that), however, Windows Vista supports this new Intel BIOS out of the box. This means we only have to wait 2 to 4 years for Vista to ship and then we can install it on our Intel Macs.

I know Vista jokes are easy, but I just can't help myself.

A question for anyone who cares to answer. I have a Windows Xp system and lots and lots of Bible Software that is designed for windows. I also use Microsoft Office 2003 heavily. The question I have is. If I were to buy a new mac with the intel processor. Will I be able to run the programs in a way that I could integrate the results into MAC programs/windows. Another way to put it is this. Can you be using a mac program and switch quickly to a windows window, work then copy or paste? Hopt that is clear.

As a Windows XP user I would be tempted to buy an Apple Computer to keep my present material and venture into all the advantages that Apple presents. Rather than the Mac enthusiasts knocking Window users, this might swing many of them to the Apple OS.

I still say virtual is the way to go for me. I don't want to give up my machine to Windows, and I *need* to run apps from both OSes *at the same time*. That's what makes these new MacTels ideal for me, being able to run both OSes in tandem.

Cheers,
FL

Like # 10, I use a particular software that shall remain nameless that does not run on a OS X... believe me I've bothered the company about this more than a few times but they refuse to port it. In fact, they told me that the software is built on core Microsoft architecture. Therefore, it would be nice since I have to pay $2K for a laptop if I had the option of installing Vista so that I can boot in run the program the once in a while that I need to and go back to my MacWorld to do all the other regular stuff I have to. I'm thinking one laptop that runs it all or should I say to rule them all... LOL

As has been noted elsewhere, the Linux boot loader -- Grub -- can load Windows XP on an EFI machine like the MacTels. So you may not have to wait for Vista.

Of course Microsoft won't do anything to prevent Vista running on Macs. Why would they? They're not competeing against Apple on hardware. To MS, a copy of Windows on a computer is a copy of Windows on a computer - whether than computer is a dell, an hp, or an apple - it's all the same profit for them.

Let's say, for instance, that you work at a company whose software, be it Lotus Notes or a database application, will not work on your Mac. You are faced with the decision to either accept the monstrous, slow, dull IBM ThinkPad that you're offered, or install a second OS on your laptop, that you can boot whenever you need it.

I don't see this as a problem; if it's absolutely necessary to run the worst OS in the world, you might as well only do it on the best hardware, and only as often as you have to.

All that this option offers is freedom, and freedom is a very good thing when dealing with computers whose worlds are only coming together now for the first time.

"The article - and the zijillions of others that have sprouted up on the web in the last 48 hours - is running under the assumption that Microsoft won't do anything to prevent Vista from running on the Macs." - djSyndrome

I'm pretty sure Apple would take them to court if they did that. Unfair that other hardware companys are aloud to have windoze run on their boxes and apple is not.

What for a pc do you get for 300$? if you wish to run games then the latest dual cores from apple willl do just fine. I paid for a license for a game for windows and I want to be able to run it on my laptop... not build a big beige box just to do so o4 buy again a new copy for mac (I already did this for Age of mythology just to realize you couldn't even play online with PC users).

Note that, while it would surely be better to dual boot for games (for maximum performance) a solution like vmware would surely run fine on those new laptops. Vmware was quite usable on linux X86. This is not comparable with VirtualPC on PowerPC (though it uses a lot of memory of course).
