Day 2 with the iPod Radio Remote

So, I've been using the iPod Radio Remote for a full two days now, and I'm still very pleased with the device, but I noticed a few new details that I wanted to share. First off, if your headphones unplug from the Radio Remote while listening to regular tracks, the iPod doesn't pause the track as it does with the regular jack up top. Also, the audio coming out of the iPod's jack is slightly louder than the audio coming out of the Radio Remote. I've found my favorite use for this is to have the headphones plugged into my iPod which is in my inside coat pocket, and then let the Radio Remote dangle down where I clip it to the bottom of my coat for easy control while I'm commuting. Who needs one of those fancy iPod-integrated jackets when you can use one of these?

Randy--Yes.

Dan, the remote has both a hold switch and a clip.

umijin - 4G and up do this pausing behavior. 'twould be quite handy on the 3g with those fussy touch controls. Turning my 3g off was always my least favorite task. Usually took 2 tries. With the 4g and up, you *could* just pull the plug and let it auto-off, for a quicker way to shut it off. But with the click wheel, holding Play is foolproof anyway.

Randy - I second you. That was my question when I read the post.

Michael - assuming you wouldn't be sharing the Radio Remote with a 5g as well, I would just look for the old Apple Remote. Plugs into the top, which makes it much easier to use with a case. I loved mine, but the hold switch broke, they wouldn't give me a replacement because I lost my receipt, and I couldn't bring myself to pay another $40. So now it's gathering dust. They sell clones of it on eBay now, but they don't have a hold switch. Otherwise they seem to be a pretty accurate ripoff judging solely from the photos. Haven't bought one though. The hold may or may not be important to you.

C.K. - Does the new remote have a clip like the old one? What about a hold switch?

C.K., does this remote function solely as a remote if you try plugging it into a pre-5G iPod? Obviously the radio functionality won't work, but it would be nice if the remote functionality still did.

Does the remote control adjust headphone volume even if your headphones are plugged into the headphone jack and not the remote?

Eh? I didn't realize this... (futzes with his iPods...) OK - it's true my nano stops when I pull out the headphone, but my 3G iPod keeps on playing. I guess newer iPods have this feature?

Anyway, for idiots like me who never realized play stops in this situation - it's no biggie.

I usually sit my 5G ipod in a dock (the Apple iPod with color display Dock I believe) and plug my speakers into the jack at the top of the iPod.

If I plugged the remote into the back of the dock, will the iPod sense this and allow the radio to work?

All the best,

Martyn.

How is this affecting battery life on the nano? That's the one thing holding me back on buying one of these... that plus the price point.. $50? man...
