iTunes Users Prefer VW and Audi Over Other Car Brands
In keeping with our poll theme today, a
Nielsen/NetRatings survey found that users of iTunes and the iTMS are more likely to buy VW's or Audi's. Maybe this
shouldn't be much of a shock seeing as both of those brands are set up for iPod
integration. My favorite quotable from the post about this poll on edmunds.com is:While it may seem like a small market to corner, iTunes users are seen by many ad firms as one of the most desirable segments as they tend to be young, educated and flush with disposable income.
Why thank you! *blush* Oh wait a minute, that means they're going to market to me. I guess I'll just avoid those pesky commercials by getting my TV from the iTMS.
[also at the BBC NEWS thanks iFelix!]

Interesting. VW and Audi aren't particularly well-known for their challenging designs here in Europe. Mostly Italian brands like Lancia, Alfa Romeo and, to lesser extent, Fiat are design-brands, and the French aren't too bad either with Renault, Peugeot and Citro뮮

I meant to write 30 cinema displays, not 3...

Anyhow, at the Detroit Auto show VW had something like 3 Cinema Displays showing safari and iTunes (with a pair of headphones to listen to iTunes). I believe the systems were running Tiger. I didn't take any pictures :(
But... Saturn had an iMac "buried" in a aluminum kiosk with a Griffin PowerMate, and the Saturn logo BLATANTLY stuck on over the Apple logo. These were at each of the cars. i have pictures of these.
Every year the companies at the Auto Show sell the used flooring at the local carpet stores - frankly I want to get my hands on a used Cinema Display!
Hey, the story said the leader was VW, and "Other popular carmakers among the group include Audi and Subaru." TUAW mentions Audi, but not Subaru. What gives?! Share the love. :)
Also, Subaru has no iPod integration (no aux-in, either), so I'm not sure how strong your theory is that folks buy those brands for that reason.
someone needs tolook at the rate of Mac users and MINI Cooper owners.
I know there is an extreme correlation
"Wow... is it just moi, or is the iPod in that picture a bit... flat?"
Haha, thats a nice Photoshop rendering:)
Frankly, I've seen quite a few VW Mac mini installations. Beetle, Passat, Golf... and some Audis too.
As for the cars, I'm not so sure if it has anything to do with using iTunes or not - more the target group. Young people use iTunes. And if you come visit my campus, you would find that very many of us drive VWs or Audis. Personally I drive a Golf:)
I just was at my VW dealer today, and the Parts manager laughed at me when I asked for the iPod kit for my '04 Touareg. He said VW is good at marketing things and then not getting them to dealers. :) He said as best as he could tell NO dealers are getting them yet, despite the brochures in the showroom and the newly released VW parts catalog. Oh well. Patience makes the heart grow fonder? Oh no, that's distance, I guess patience is a virtue. ARG!

January 23 2006 at 1:39 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyNo suprise. Having followed both VW and Apple most my life I've noticed that almost at the some time (late 90's and early 00's) both companies placed heavy emphisis on great design and innovation. I've always felt VW made cars/advertising that Apple would make/design and Apple made computers that VW would make/design.
They both seem to complement each other. Younger generations are naturlly drawn to them becouse they tend to move the market and not follow it.
