Rig of the Day: I just gotta be me

Ok, so technically this isn't someone's rig, but that lone green iMac among a sea of blue reminded me of that old Far Side comic in which one penguin among a multitude was trying to assert his independence. You go, lime iMac. As an aside to ghostofchicken, who posted this shot: If you don't need those iMacs, I'll be happy to take them off your hands.

I've got one of those old iMacs. It's a great machine! I replaced the OEM 12gb drive with a newer 40gb drive and upgrade it to 512mb of ram. Running OSX Tiger 10.4.4 is not a problem and I would reccomend it if you can get it cheep. I come from a PC background and it's been a great place to get on the mac-bandwagon. The only issues I've experienced is that that most of the iLife '05 programs are slow and unresponsive. Furthermore, iPhoto doesn't allow you use the advanced features.
Other than that it's great.

I love how the graphite studio display overlords are looking down on the iMacs so condecendingly...

Why not sell those Macs on eBay? I know quite a few people who would be happy to buy older, used Macs. They could be used for many things, like daily email/internet/office tasks, or maybe even backup solutions. Argh!

Forgive me, but that would appear to be a Bondi blue iMac in a sea of (Blueberry) or more likely Indigo iMacs.

To Joe Lillig:
How did you get Tiger running on your old iMac? When I tried to do it, it complained about there being no firewire port. Please... do tell. I'd love to update my son's tangerine iMac from Panther to Tiger.
Thanks,
Chris Bragg

#5, no. It's definitely green. Look at the actual picture! It's green! Obviously 100% green.
Basically it's an older tray loading Lime Green iMac (From the five fruits series.) in a sea of Indigo slot loaders (From the DV jewel named series.)
I had a Ruby iMac as my first Mac back in 2000. I miss her every day.

Check out this - my son compared the cost of 1 tricked-out G5 quad, and guess how many mac Mini's it took to equal them. . .

Just thought you might want to know--
That Far Side cartoon was one where the final product, the colorized poster version that most people saw, is emphatically NOT the version that the cartoonist intended. Gary Larson originally drew the panel (as he always did) in black-and-white, and his point was the futility of the penguin trying to stand out even though he looked exactly the same as all the rest. But then, when the poster (or calendar or whatever it was) came out, Larson was mortified to discover that whoever had done the coloring-- because it certainly wasn't him-- had "helpfully" painted that one penguin yellow. Which makes the joke stupid and meaningless.
This post is unclear as to whether it's referring to the B/W version or the colorized version... but on the off chance that it's the color version, well, here's some history. :)
