Rig of the Day: Group photo

Ok, everyone gather around for a group photo. Cinema CRT...you stand it the back, you're tall.
Pictured here we find a 17" Apple CRT Cinema display connected to a dual 2.5 Power Mac G5, three sibling Powerbooks, plus an iBook, iSight, six iPods (yes, six) and a G4 Cube. That's either quite a personal collection, a gathering of many people's Macs...or somebody runs one heck of an Ebay business.
"Apple Products" posted by jpod999.
If you'd like to see your own rig featured here, simply upload photos into our group Flickr pool. We'll select an image every day to highlight.
Update: Regarding our Rigs of the Day series, reader Ron Martinez says, "There's a depressing sameness about the rigs - motley collections of Macs from multiple eras, with accessories and peripherals in a poorly framed photo. How about replacing ROTD with a Rigs of Distinction feature. When you get something truly new or noteworthy, or interesting for some unique feature (rig in a car, on a scooter, case mod, etc.) post that."
Well, you heard the man! We want to see your killer set ups: The mini under your car's dashboard, the room full of Xserves, the SE/30 that is automating your home, your stack of every iPod model ever sold...even your Newton web server. Just upload them to our our group Flickr pool. We're not saying that we don't want to see your humble home set up (that's what most of us have, afterall), but don't hesitate to really knock our socks off.

Look at that furniture (in particular the lofted bed), that is so from a college dorm room.

Actually, that monitor is a 17" CRT *Studio* display. Only the LCDs got the Cinema moniker.

I get the idea, but have to say this Rig of the Day is getting a little old. There's a depressing sameness about the rigs - motley collections of Macs from multiple eras, with accessories and peripherals in a poorly framed photo. How about replacing ROTD with a Rigs of Distinction feature. When you get something truly new or noteworthy, or interesting for some unique feature (rig in a car, on a scooter, case mod, etc.) post that. In the meantime, this is just clogging up the air(port)waves around here.

I can not totally judge because I have lots of Mac gear myself, but I see photos like this and wonder... about Mac and iPod sales. The numbers are larger (QTY wise) but you have got to wonder how many users are actually out there. With ratios like the above Apple's 42 millon iPods went to 7 millon people - still a big number but somewhat less impressive.

AWESOME I GOT RIG OF THE DAY!!!! This isn't a dorm, I am at my house and this is just some of my family Macs.
All of them run but the oldest Powerbook's batter is shot. It has to be plugged in for it to work.

I kind of like Rig of the Day, but there has been a huge drop off in WOW factor. One of the early ones, maybe the second one, had neatly stacked shelves surrounding the rig. Decor is almost as important as the hardware, especially Mac posters on the wall and such.
But some losers apartment with particle board furniture that hasn't been cleaned in 2 years and bad lighting, it is kind of depressing.

Rounding up every bit of legacy Apple hardware they can find and plopping it on a desk with every other piece of Apple hardware they own (or in recent days warehouses full of legacy Macs).
I don't think the term *rig* is being observed correctly anymore in the *rig of the day* posts.
I've seen some pretty cool video setups come through the pool (including a vj setup with a kazillion monitors that looked sweet!) The shots of clean desks with well placed hardware that *compliment* the gorgeous design effort by Apple are few. Let's see truly well setup rigs that are of the same stature as the machines themselves. I want to see your studio or editing suite all nicely laid out. Think of it as inspiration for others even if we can't afford ALL of that pretty blinky hardware.
Also - If some thought went into the photography and composition...
One can hope! =)
