Macworld on TurboTax Deluxe 2005
Two things are certain in life: death and taxes, however, if you are going to be doing your taxes on your Mac it is
almost certain that you will be using TurboTax Deluxe 2005. It is the only game in town (well, the only Mac desktop
application) but luckily Macworld says it
is a great product. It includes a question and answer section that it uses to fill out some of your tax information,
based on your answers, and it can retrieve electronic copies of your W2's (if you have access to them).Check out the review and marvel at all the tax prep prowess you get for $35.

Back when I used a PC, I used TurboTax. This was until their SNAFU with the copy protection that could destroy multi-boot systems and stayed installed after uninstallation. Sorry, no go. I will never touch another Intuit product again, PC or Mac. Quicken was one of the first things dragged into the trash (after IE) when I bought this Mac.
I started many, many years ago with MacInTax for my personal and business tax returns and migrated easily into TurboTax when they bought out MacInTax. I've always found it easy to use, and I like being able to switch to the familiar tax forms for a final check after completing the interview process.
This year I received the locked CD, and when I was ready to do my taxes, I registered it, downloaded the updates and state portion, completed the returns and efiled them -- all in less than two hours. A truly great product.
TurboTax is really cool. I love how intuitive the interface is.

Much nicer interface (almost Mac-like) and nice integration with Quicken. The only negative is lack of one free e-file, so be prepared to add $15 to your cost.
Highly recommend.
Kudos to Intuit for making TurboTax a hybrid Windows/Mac product. For years Windows users got TurboTax dirt cheap after rebates, while Mac users were stuck paying a big premium (if you could find it at the store at all). No longer.
Thanks Intuit!
While I have major problems with the Quicken side of the house (and its meager to non-existant new features or bug fixes), TurboTax is an excellent product. Like others here, I've used it for several years, and they just manage to keep improving and streamlining the interface.
This is one of those rarities where a lack of competition doesn't bother me - the only game in town is indeed a damn good one.
I definately vote for the online version. It saves and imports my data year to year (with desktop versions, I tended to get new machines and lose my old data) and you don't have to worry about crashes. Granted things have probably gotten better, but after one year of dealing with so many crashes that I ended up going the paper route, I switched to turbo tax online. Cost me a whopping $9 this year, and ohio has free online filing, so a cheaper option as well.

February 10 2006 at 1:37 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyUsed it, liked it, refund, great...
The reason why I use it comapared to then on line is beacuse I have a lot of diifernt types of information other than the standard w2. House, Wife, Kids, investments, losses, gains, ect.
To me it is a easyer way to do multisession (and have a backup) process of doing taxes.
Why not just use their online versions? I'm not sure I see the point in paying $35 for an application that has a one-time use when I can use the online version and pay considerably less.
