TUAW Tip: iTunes Music Store Wishlist

Did you know that you can drag tracks (including videos) from the iTunes Music into a playlist? You sure can, but why would you want to? Many people lament the fact that they can't keep a wish list, or shopping cart, full of songs and shows that they might want to buy. Here's a solution for that:
1. Create a playlist called 'iTunes Wish List' (or whatever you would like to call it).
2. Drag tracks that you might want to buy at some point onto the playlist.
3. Those tracks are now waiting for you to buy them in one place.
Sure, this keeps your list on one machine so other folks can't see it (unless you are sharing your library over Bonjour), but it is better than nothing.
A picture of what the track listing looks like after the jump.

As you can see, you can even purchase a track right from the playlist. Cool, huh?

iTunes playlist to HTML for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

There, all of you people who want it.
I don't like the shopping cart. Because I want to download the song right away.
I do like this though. It's even smart enough to know when a song you added to it has already been bought.
Great tip, Scott. I had the same idea as James, and actually just wrote an article about it at my site along with instructions on how people can gift the music to you.

A shopping is available under Preferences it Is easy to activate and albums can be added to it for purchase later.

Whenever I see a song that I would like to purchase I just drag it into that folder. Every once-and-a-while I will go to this folder, take a look at the songs that I was thinking about purchasing, and purchase a few of them that I want the most.
This helps me control my spending on iTunes and prevents me from purchasing frivolous music.
Another neat thing about a "wishlist" playlist is that the "Buy Song" button is replaced with the actual song after purchase.

On both Mac and Windows, if you single-click any playlist, then go File > Export Song List this will export the XML for just that playlist, not your entire library. This would then give you the XML for just that Wish List playlist, and from there you could convert into HTML and share with the rest of the world.
Seems like a great idea, especially if you take it to the next level. With an iTunes to HTML export utility, you could publish a wish list of songs for your friends on your website, or even set up a RSS feed to watch for changes. Beats Amazon, where you can only put albums on your wish list.
A quick search at versiontracker comes up with lots of iTunes to HTML utilities: http://tinyurl.com/cpt85
And for Windows users: Can't really find a solution, I would recommend a iTunes to M3U export utility (lots for free out there), and then an online M3U to HTML converter.
