BBEdit Gems

BBEdit isn't just a program, it is a way of life. Certainly that is the sense that you get from the legion of people that swear by it. If you are a new initiate to the cult of BBEdit perhaps BBEdit Gems is just what you have been looking for.

BBEdit Gems is a site completely devoted to covering the ins and outs of BBEdit and tips and tricks to get the most out of this text editor.

As an aside, BBEdit Lite, the non-trial stripped-down free version, is no longer developed but still available and works on 10.4.4 (PowerPC) with no problems.

Just echoing the praise for textwrangler. I started with lite a couple years ago and migrated over to wrangler last year. Very indispensable tool (and cool! and free!) especially for anyone doing web editing.

Chris makes a good point. I've been using Text Wrangler for a year, a great product for the majority of people imho.

http://www.barebones.com/products/bbedit/threeway.shtml has a comparison between the text editing products from bare bones. I wouldn't recommend bbedit lite, as textwrangler is more modern and powerful, but just as free!

But why hunt down the ancient BBedit Lite when you could have the more modern and robust TextWrangler?

Thanks for the heads-up. I was using BBEdit all the way back in System 7! Possibly even System 6, but can't remember for sure. Whas it available then? I'm pretty sure I was using it on an SE/30 many years ago. ;-)

I thought BBedit Lite had been replaced by Textwrangler as BareBones free text editor to get you hooked on BBedit.

Can be found here:

and is now universal as far as I know.
