The best tip? Checking the battery of your Apple Remote by pointing it at your built in iSight. Sweet!

"All I want to know is how I can get the remote, use an generic IR receiver, and get the full functionality out of it."

I don't have the remote, but I've played with one. Yes for the first part, maybe for the second part. You would need drivers for the standard IR receiver to translate signals from the IR into whatever signals they should be for the software to recognize (my theory is keyboard signals, but I don't have the remote to test that theory out).

I See Connections Everywhere...

Can you connect an iPod Univsersal Dock to an older Mac and use the remote to control the Mac? Also, is it possible to use the remote with a nonbuilt iin iSight to control the computer. I'd love to have that on my G5 DP2.5 and 30" Cinema Display!

Kinda funny, if you look at the kbase article for pairing a remote with a particular Mac. (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302545)
Step 1: "Invade your iMac's personal space by getting up close to it (about 3 or 4 inches away)."
