Apple Stores in Scotland soon?
This article in the Scotsman, which is about
Apple trying to leverage the success of the iPod to get into the enterprise, mentions that is very likely that an Apple
store will open in Glasgow and Edinburgh 'once Apple can secure prime retail locations.Sounds like Scottish Mac fans should start saving up their money, because the Mothership will be building a few outposts soon.

Seems only right and fitting, after all the name Macintosh is of Scottish origin. :-)
A new Apple store in Dublin would be nice though...

If they don't build one in Buchanan St, Glasgow, I'll eat my iBook!

Gerry, too bad the one near St Stephen's Green (Kildare St?) is gone - but the O2 Experience one on Grafton Street is actually much nicer.
I have mixed feelings about Apple in Scotland. We have Scotsys just around to corner from my office (they're on Nicholson Street, next to Bean Scene), and they have up-to-date hardware and nice accessories. These guys are doing a good job at selling and servicing Apple hardware, so I wonder if Apple shouldn't concentrate on other important cities with big universities. Germany is much more in need of good Apple stores, as the local Gravis chain doesn't have enough outlets, it seems.

There's a development on Parnell St. in Dublin that looks perfect for an Apple store, but it's not exactly high street, especially with Stringfellows now!
There's got to be a demand for an Apple store in Dublin given the amount of O2 Experience Stores (Which are 1/2 Apple products), and Spectra Photo and 3G stores with Apple sections. Come on, Cork has the European HQ, Give us our fix!

David - there's a great little hidden Mac shop just off of Byres Road called ThinkMac. They don't have a huge amount of stock but they do have a ridiculously comprehensive knowledge (as well as some 15 year old Macs on display!).
I'm hoping that a Store does open on Buchanan Street in Glasgow. Now that it's one of the four most profitable high streets in Britain, it seems more and more likely. Plus, hopefully it'll mean a good job for a few years once I've finished university!

The Apple shop in Kildare Street was part of the bigger Compustore on St Stephen's Green, and closed down when Compustore itself went bust. I wish they'd take all the signage down, as it's not good for Apple's image having a tatty looking vacant shop with the Apple logo over the door.
It's true that there are a lot more places selling Apple gear in Dublin now than even a year ago. However, my problem with them is that they have a very limited range and the hardware on display are often out of date (one place I know of still has a pre-October 2005 iMac on display). But the worst fault is that often the people selling them haven't a clue. A while ago, I had to get an Airport card for my G4 iMac, and in a couple of shops just got blank looks. Not an idea what I was on about.
In the city centre now, as well as the O2 Experience shops in Grafton Street and Henry Street, the 3G stores have some stuff. The best Apple retailer I have come across in Dublin city centre is Spectra Photo at the bottom of Grafton Street, opposite Trinity. They have a good range of up-to-date hardware on display, a decent software selection, and the people there know what they're talking about.
But that said, something like the Regent Street store in the city centre or Dundrum Town Centre...well, I can dream, can't I?

Edinburgh Scotsys are good ... this loyal PowerBook (my first and so far only Mac) is from there and I've generated them a good bit of business in my time with switcher spawning! But the prospect of a real Apple Store is so much more appealing.
For instance it took them forever to stock the rev.A Alubook 15" that my brother bought, and when it came to the release of the 2.5GHz Dual PowerMac, he bought from Apple online instead of waiting on their call...
Likewise for my Airport Express. I NEEDED that thing and got it within days thanks to the "mothership".
If Edinburgh get's an Apple Store I will be pleased as pink. Especially if it's more than a Mini one (which I hear is likely) and isn't geared too heavily for iPods (which in Edinburgh are two orders of magnitude more popular than Macs right now).
Someone tell me there are MacBook Pro's in Edinburgh right now which didn't come via web order? I don't think so.

Superb!
Not knocking Apple resellers, but I would feel so much better about buying my new Mac in an official Apple store.
Edinburgh or Glasgow - no preference.
Just hopes its true.

One word. OLD NEWS! Ok, that's two, but this article from Chris Braithwaite was mentioned on IFOAppleStore.Com in January! Braithwaite's comments have been around since August 2005.

I think this has got to be the first time I have ever, ever heard any Mac user say anything good about Scotsys.
Ever.

About f*cking time! The resellers in Scotland are pants... especially John Lewis, who are exceptionally clueless.
Edinburgh or Glasgow I don't care... so long as it does repairs.

As long as it's comparable to the Regent Street store, I'll be happy :)

yeah, I'm with 12), I've already written a comment several paragraphs of slander- but thought it wasn't worth it.
Those Scotsys guys are backward thinking mac-pushers. Not Mac Lovin' Cupertino Chatting Hipsters. Your average Scottish businessmen to a Tee, and - and they didn't know what i was talking about when I mentioned TUAW was the source of all Mac news... they didn't care. My GAWD, makes me so mad, I have to sell ThinkPads all day ;(
Steve! Geez us a job!

No actual apple store in Ireland, to previw in person before we buy!
Forget Galway, Waterford, Cork or Dublin. We need one apple store anywhere, somewhere. We need a store, in Ireland!
After one, we need 10 stores, maybe 20 stores!
Cork, Waterford, Galway, Dublin......etc. PLEASE GIVE IRELAND STORES !!!

They should build it in Aberdeen....everyones oil rich, all the corporate cats live up here, and I don't fancy having to travel to edinburgh or glasgow just to play with the toys I'll never afford. At least its worth travelling to London for a day in the Mac store :)
